“I need a horse for my…for Stella.” Aaron frowned slightly, seeming to give the apple more attention than normal. Then he held it back, running his hand down the muzzle of the brown horse and holding out her lead rope to me. “Tiffany. That's what she's called.” — The adrenaline from the sprint hummed beneath my skin, beads of sweat gathered at the back of my neck. I ran my hand against Olarya’s dark fine fur, stopping to scratch the back of her ears softly. Her sides expanded and contracted with heavy, rhythmic breaths, the faint smell of sweat rising from her coat.

His thin frame planted itself in front of Oscar. Oscar's vision blurred. The last time someone stood in front of him like that, it had been his mentor. Behind them, Helena gripped her scissors. Rebecca held a fruit knife in trembling hands. Fear showed on their faces, but so did resolve. They had known him less than an hour. Oscar's chest tightened. He had given everything to the Chamberlain sisters. They had never given him this. A cough tore from his throat. He covered his mouth. Blood stained his palm.

Oscar pulls away from me, and before I know it, he’s on the step next to Frederick. “It’s okay big guy, you got us now,” he says, patting the side of his leg. I can only grin at that, he’s always been so empathetic and he doesn’t like to see anyone cry alone. “And who are you exactly? A mere child with absolutely no fear,” Frederick asks, amused. Oscar’s face lights up as he looks over at me. I proudly smile back. “I’m half of Hannah’s personal protection badass goon squad,” he proudly boasts, making Oliver snicker.

"Do you dare say you have no ulterior motives? Who's your friend?" Oscar suddenly laughed. His laugh sounded shameless as he said, "No, my friend, listen to me. Don't be angry. We're both unmarried, and you know me inside out. There's no one more suitable to be your brother-in-law than me." Xander bitingly retorted, "Suitable? You're not fit to be with our Jessie. Put away your dirty thoughts. You're not worthy of her." Oscar was amused by his anger. "Xander, how am I not worthy?"

No more arguments from him. Oscar strolls in, looking sharp in a navy blue polo that makes his grey eyes practically glow blue. He moves to stand right next to Xander…who, by the way, looks ridiculously good in that dark green polo. My frown deepens slightly as I watch how close Oscar is standing to Xander, their arms practically brushing. ‘Are they together?’ I ask Medus. ‘I don’t know,’ my wolf responds, thoughtful. ‘But after the moment we had with Xander earlier, I doubt it. No way he’d be comfortable standing that close to his partner after that… would he?’

I don’t know how that made me happy, and neither do I know how it also gave me strength, because immediately after the smirk, I could feel my bones becoming stronger, what if I and Jeremy have super connection, I mean, he’s old, but it’s a connection nonetheless. “The medicine has worn off by now” said Alex as he stares at his watch and then at his father in a hopeful state. “You can get up now cant you Charlie?” I didn’t even waste time I immediately stand as fast as I can. “Someone is so eager to go home huh?” I look at Diana, the smirk on her face, even annoys me. “Yeah thank you everyone” I say with sarcasm dripping from my mouth. Xander is a devil who I can't kill, but only watch him do whatever he likes to me. Fuck!... I wish I could find someone to kill him.

While I was wondering what sin I committed to earn this divine punishment, the radio cut through. “…joining us today is Gerard Vance, CEO of Vance Pharmaceuticals.” It’s been years, yet this guy’s name still rang in my ears, sharp and bitter.
