“Are you scared?”
“A little,” I admit, knowing there is no point in lying. Adrian can see past lies, but even though I’m trembling, I decide I won’t flinch away from him again if he touches me. I don’t give him the satisfaction.
“What you said last time shocked me,” he goes on, moving closer still.
I keep my eyes on his. “I can imagine, and guess what? It’s all true. I’m Phoebe.”
Adrian’s lips twitch, but he doesn’t look friendly. It makes my chest ache. This isn’t the Adrian I remember. This one has a cruel smile and a malicious gleam in his eyes. He is dangerous, even to me.
