A book had fallen off the chair, and she picked it up, taking an interest in it. And so, Mary dug into "Angels and Demons," the fictional book by Dan Brown. So lost was she in the book that she tuned out everything, flipping each page with urgency. The honking of a car distracted Mary, and that was the only time she looked up. The sun's intensity had reduced, and cool air was blowing.

A new title appeared on every screen in the world, scrolling in a font made of starlight: "BOOK TWO: THE MARS AUDIT. PROTAGONIST: HOPE THORNE-VANCE. STATUS: INITIALIZING..."
