Darius' POV

The dungeon corridor felt colder after I'd left her there, but even with the distance between us, it did nothing to get her out of my mind. I could still feel the way her voice trembled when she said she didn't kill him. I could still see the way her shoulders shook, like she was trying to hold herself together. It sent shivers down my spine, and for a moment, a tiny part of me had wanted to comfort her despite it all.

I wanted to believe her. Gods, I wanted to believe her so badly it made my chest hurt, but it was a risk I couldn't sacrifice anymore. I'd believed her blindly in the past and look where that had gotten me. I couldn't afford to do it one more time, not with her, and especially not with someone from his pack.

Hunter.

The mere thought of him was more than enough to stoke a fire inside me. It wasn't news how much I hated him, but knowing that she was the least bit related to him, made it all the more worse.

Why? Why did it have to be her of all people? Wh

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 91

Kiara’s POV I wasn't sure how long I was knocked out for, but something told me it wasn't for long. My eyes were pressed shut, and the moment I tried to peel them open, I realized something was wrong. I couldn't open them.Panic settled in the pit of my stomach. With my eyes still pressed shut, I tapped my palm against the ground. Instead of the rough and jagged surface of the arena for the blood trial, I was met with stone. Cold seeped into my body from the contact, and even though it wasn't exactly surprising, there was something else that came with it. A crippling kind of fear that we bound to numb me in the long run. All I hoped, was that it wouldn't catch up to me at the wrong time. I had no idea where I was and what had happened, and it made no sense that I couldn't even see or try to figure out what was going on. The thought had barely made its way into my mind before something stirred in me. I couldn't place it, but somehow I got the urge to open my eyes. The moment I

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 90

Kiara’s POV The forest was silent, too silent and I hated it. It reminded me too much of the storm before the calm, but it was reverse for me at this point. Right now, I was already experiencing the calm, and it was a very wide indication that the storm wouldn't be pleasant.Even the wind seemed to hold it's breath as I stepped into the ancient clearing. It wasn't anything grand, just a wide circle surrounded by sacred trees and scorched with the faint smell of blood and fire. The Blood Moon loomed overhead, large and pulsing red like an open wound in the sky. It was watching me obviously, and a small part of me felt like it was judging me too. A small sigh slid past my lips as I took in my immediate environment. There wasn't much to look at, even the birds were nowhere to be found. The air smelled like death, and I couldn't help the goosebumps that made its way down my spine. The test was yet to start, but somehow I already felted defeated, and I hated it. How many more trials

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 89

Kiara's POV I knew something was wrong the moment I stepped into the council chamber. I couldn't place it, but that didn't mean I could feel it either. The strange sensation washes over me and clung to me like a second skin. My stomach churned in anxiety, and no matter how hard I tried to push down the lump that had formed in my throat, it just didn't budge. Nothing seemed to be working, but deep down, I knew I had bigger things to worry about than that. The tension hung thick in the air, heavier than fog and as sharp as a blade. Despite the unease I picked up from the room, I allowed myself a slight glance at it all. The lights were low, dangerously low, but I knew I was still the centre of attraction. My eyes caught sight of the warriors that could easily pass as statutes by the walls. They were rooted to their spots, and for a moment, I was this close to thinking they weren't breathing anymore. The council members lined the crescent table, and if the scowls they wore meant an

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 88

Darius' POV The council chamber was ten degrees colder than usual, but it wasn't in temperature, but rather in energy. I wasn't sure if they'd unanimously decided that the theme for today's meeting would be frostbite with a side serving of icy glares, but that seemed to be the order of the day. No matter every corner I turned or looked at, I was met with the cold stares coming from the members of the council, but they weren't meant for me, but rather, the young woman I'd been defending like my life depended on it. Six of the council embers sat at the high stone table. With the same expression on their faces, you could already tell the outcome of today's meeting, even though I would rather puke than focus on that. By my side, a few warriors flanked the corners, tension radiating from every muscle in their body. Alongside that tension, was whispers as well. They seemed to have spread to every corner of the pack house now. At first, they were shouts of fear and worry, but now, thei

  • Awakening the White Wolf   Chapter 86

Kiara's POV I felt it before I heard it, and that was usually not a good sign. It started from the air, and the atmosphere. Call me crazy or whatever, but I could swear I felt a slight tremor in the air. Shift in the mood of the pack house that was so subtle it would've have gone unnoticed if I hadn't spent tvood number of days on the run. I didn't want to remember it, but somehow, a part of me must have triggered my mind to do a quick replay, because that was what had happened the moment I pressed my eyes shut. It had started in the hallway. Guards whispered in their corners and duty posts, and while that wasn't an odd sight to see, today's own was slightly peculiar. Like that wasn't enough, I watched a patrolman rush past without making eye contact with anybody. None of those incidents were were normal, and before I could send a command to my brain, I realized a little bit too late that my feet were already moving on their own accord. I stepped out of my room against my bette
