I wore Kaelen's dark cloak over my shoulders like a royal mantle.
Lord Regent Cassius rode through the gates, his platinum armor gleaming under the overcast sky. He halted his horse ten feet from us, looking down his nose with an expression of absolute, unfiltered disdain.
"Alpha Blackwood," Cassius drawled, not bothering to dismount. "We received reports of a massive, unauthorized discharge of ancient magic. The Council strictly forbids the hoarding of divine artifacts."
"There are no artifacts here, Lord Regent," Kaelen said coldly, stepping forward to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with me. "We were under siege by the Crimson Court. The threat has been neutralized."
