The Wolf's Game
The rabbit’s fur ripples, light flaring brighter around its small form.
Violet surges forward in my mind, weak but furious.
‘You chose this,’ she says. ‘And every time you did, you left him behind.’
My chest constricts painfully.
“No,” I breathe. “Not again.”
The rabbit meets my gaze, and for just a heartbeat, I swear it nods.
The clearing flickers. The smiles freeze, and the golden rabbit turns and bolts toward the forest.
My instincts scream, and I wrench my hand free from Riven’s grasp.
