The rogue shakes its head and still doesn’t shift, whining, morosely, as it continues to cower. I follow the aqua thread that is connected to the rogue and quickly breech its mind. Me: ‘You need to shift back now, or I will be forced to kill you.’ Rogue: ‘How...' Me: ‘It’s one of my gifts. Now do as I said.’ Rogue: ‘I can’t shift. I am stuck this way.’ Me: ‘Why?’ Rogue: ‘I can’t tell you.’ Me: ‘You can’t, or you won’t?’

Even Silas seemed to deflate, the fight draining out of him under his leader’s withering disapproval. Rogue turned back to me. The glacial eyes held mine. "My apologies, Mr. Reynolds," he said, the words unexpected, delivered with a stark sincerity that threw me more than any threat. "For the… unwelcome reception. And for the threats made against you and your companion. They were unauthorized and unacceptable." He gave a slight, formal nod. "My name is Rogue. I lead the Eagle Brothers. You carved the Crown of Azura. That demands a certain… respect. And a conversation."

"Everything within 50 miles is my territory. Who would dare send you to an Alpha's house to steal?" The Rogue fumbled in his shirt with trembling hands and pulled out a small pouch. I opened it, and inside were several spirit stones of mediocre quality. These stones weren't top-grade, but they'd fetch decent money on the black market. To a Rogue, this was a fortune. I think they smell that way to warn packed werewolves away from them. Most rogues live in their wolf forms and become more and more feral and savage the longer they stay in that form, so they can be dangerous and unpredictable if you come across them.” “Do I smell like that?” I asked, sitting up and studying him. “Yes, but I’ve gotten used to your smell now. I almost don’t even notice it anymore.”
