Chapter 1: Blessings and curses Selena's pov "Selena! Come downstairs, honey!" I heard my mother calling me from downstairs and I rolled my eyes and left Laticia, my pet cat, to go answer my mother. My eighteenth birthday was yesterday and suitors have been trouping in from all around our pack to see the rumoured prettiest girl the white moon pack had to offer. Sadly, that's me; Selena Castellan and unfortunately, my beauty is more of a curse than a blessing.

The moon hung high in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the dense Blackwood forest. The annual Blood Moon Hunt had begun, and every young wolf in the pack was out proving their strength. Selene Rivers should have been among them, chasing down prey, testing her abilities. Instead, she was running not as a predator, but as a girl desperate to escape the fate that had been carved out for her since birth. Her father, Alpha Gideon Rivers, had made it clear she was to be mated to Damon Hale, the strongest warrior in the pack, a union meant to solidify Blackwood’s power. But Selene didn’t want power. She didn’t want Damon. She wanted choice.

Would it be strange to introduce herself as Baron’s ex? But she had called with good reason. She wanted to meet the yoga instructor his wife mentioned. And now, she was speaking to the right person. There was no reason to be hesitant. “I am… Rome Montemayor. And I am calling to inquire about—” “Oh, is that you, Rome? Baron told me he gave you his number. Would you like to come visit?” She looked down at her phone, surprised. Why did Baron’s wife sound so thrilled? “I am happy to finally meet you!” Selena, Baron’s wife, said with enthusiasm. She was already waiting outside the yoga studio when the taxi brought Rome over. To Rome’s surprise, she even reached for her hands warmly.

Maybe I’d finally stop looking backward. Maybe I’d finally be free. ********* Author's Note: Thank you so much for reading! As Selena steps into a new chapter of her life, she’s confronted not just with external dangers but with the ghosts that still linger from her past. I hope you’ve found yourself immersed in the mysteries surrounding the packs, the full moon, and the ancient curses.

She arched into him, body burning. He didn’t take her—not yet. But when his hand slipped under her dress and found her heat, she gasped, clutching his shoulders. He moved with knowledge, with reverence, with dominance. The forest trembled. Selene shattered. Not in fear. But in surrender. --- That night, she returned to her room alone. But her body bore the mark of his touch. Her lips were swollen. Her thighs ached with memory. Her soul was no longer untouched. And on her skin—just above her heart—a small, glowing crescent moon shimmered faintly.

But I knew what I was up against. Isolde de Montclair wasn’t just a contender. She was a legend. Her name was on elite elixirs across the continent. Her family’s estate was packed with trophies. She moved with the calm certainty of someone used to winning. And me? I was Selene. Just… Selene. Unknown. Unproven. But I had something real. And maybe, just maybe, that would be enough.

Chapter 13 Selena wondered if Rosalie would cry when she discovered those women in her husband’s bed. She’d made sure Roman wasn’t home to explain. Selena laughed out at how perfect her plan was. She had more instore for Rosalie. She wouldn’t stop until Rosalie was dead. She didn’t contact those women personally. None of it would get back to her. Roman couldn’t even blame her for wanting to spend time with him. Her plan was so perfect that there was no way it could fail. She was going to die of jealousy, she’ll realize she’ll never be able to keep Roman happy and leave him.

“You left like you were on fire. Damien’s still at the party. People are asking.” “Let them,” Selena snapped. “I’m done playing dress-up for their entertainment.” Lexi folded her arms, concern etched on her face. “Did he say something? Or was it Camille?” Selena flinched at the name. Camille had smiled that shark smile all night, circling Damien, dropping loud, pointed hints that they still shared something real. Selena had kept her composure, played her part… but when Damien didn’t deny Camille’s words—when he simply stayed silent—it shattered the fragile calm she’d been clutching.

"I did not come here solely to assess you, Selene. I came because I owed someone a debt and this was the only way I could see to pay it." She paused. "He cannot receive it, but you can." I did not answer that; some things do not need answering, and this was one of them. Maren appeared in the doorway, looked at the quality of the silence in the room, and quietly closed the door again without speaking. "I will come to Valdenmere within two weeks of the council introduction," I said, when the silence had finished being what it needed to be. "I will come to your pack first, before the settlement, before the border meetings with Senna and Greywood. Because you have been there the longest and beca
