I'm telling you, he goes too extra with the decorations. He has money, he can allow himself to go this far with the decor, that's what he says when I ask him why. It's actually heartwarming to see this big man being so enthusiastic and giggling like a kid. And I know in such moments he is the real Viktor I have the luck to know. The sound drifts through the room, faint at first, then closer. “Ho ho ho.” The sound came again, louder this time—right outside my window. My eyes snap open, and I sit up, staring out the window. Outside, flying through the dark sky, a reindeer—no, a whole team of them—soars past, their hooves striking nothing yet leaving trails of sparkling light behind. They pull a sleigh, and at the reins sits a figure in red and white. He looks exactly like— “Santa?” I mutter, squinting to see him clearly.

There was even a reindeer—though it wasn’t real—and Michael hopped up and down in excitement. “Welcome to the North Pole!” one of Santa’s elves said, ushering them toward the line. Santa was sitting on a throne off in the distance, his white beard and red velvety suit looking genuine and his cheeks glistening in the Christmas lights that hung like snowflakes from the ceiling. The elves guiding the children through the process were all wearing green costumes with red tights, their pointy shoes and hats with bells on them. Everywhere she looked, she saw smiling, excited faces, and she couldn’t help but let it lift her spirits. “Dad! There’s Hailey!” Michael shouted, pointing across the room to

My grin widened as I eagerly looked around at my options. I knew I was acting like a child but that's what this festival did to you. It brought out your inner child and what was more of a perfect time for that than Christmas. And add on to the fact Knox was being very sweet by winning me something. "I'll take Rudolph." I pointed to the kinda smaller reindeer hanging by himself. The older man working the booth handed him over with a kind smile as I held two stuffed animals in my arms.

Then she leaned in and stage whispered, "Don't play her for money. You'll lose your shirt." Kiki laughed. "Oh, I believe that!" "Check," Abby announced again, her voice matter of fact, concentrating hard on the game. "Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas!" a voice resonated throughout the house. Kiki looked over and Santa Claus himself filled the doorway, dressed in a red suit, sporting a natural white beard, and carrying a sack filled with toys. Smiling executives dressed in business suits--both men and women--from The North Pole Lodge, were with him, carrying packages wrapped in brightly colored paper.

Lowering myself to her level, I held her shoulders gently and brushed a strand of hair from her face. “No,” I said softly. “No, honey. You just had a nightmare. That’s all.” She didn’t look convinced. “Mummy has no reason to hurt Daddy,” I added quickly. “I’ll be back soon. And guess what? We’re spending Christmas here with Grandma and Uncle Elliot.” Her face lit up instantly. “Yeah.” “I’m just going to get a few things for Christmas,” I said. “I’ll be back.” I turned away before she could ask anything else.

We came in front of a room, decorated in Christmas designs and balls. The girl knocked on the door gently before saying. "She is here." A huge lump formed in my throat as she gestured for me to go inside and I obeyed, closing the door behind me and trying not to be nervous. The room was beautifully decorated as well, but that wasn't what struck me; it was the Santa Claus sitting on the chair, with his legs spread out open. "And who do we have here?" His deep voice sent shivers down my spine as I stared at him, trying not to drool at how muscular and handsome he was.

All along the sidewalk, children clapped and waved at the big man, some even shouting their Christmas wishes. Santa looked an awful lot like Sheriff Parks, even with his fake beard and stuffed tummy. The kids didn’t seem to notice. He waved and tossed candy from atop his sleigh, his plastic reindeer fastened up the roof of the pick-up truck towing his magical sled atop a flatbed trailer. It was decorated with fake snow and Christmas trees so that it looked as if Santa was flying over the top of a forest of lighted trees. “Well, that’s that,” Memory said, turning toward him, her hands deep in her pockets. “Until next year.”
