Rue’s POV “Oh my God,” someone blurts in front of me, a guy with a septum ring and a half-full wine glass, eyes bright with recognition. “You’re the Rue, right? From the wedding yesterday?” Claire grins wider beside me, smug with satisfaction. “See? Iconic.” “You wore that blue dress!” a brunette says, already pulling out her phone. “My entire feed is talking about you. Like, you broke the internet a little.”

"Today is the day Caden Miller takes his last breath!" Ruby exclaimed, her voice dripping with contempt, as she stormed through the crowded corridor, causing heads to turn and whispers to spread. The students watched her in awe, some even recognizing her as the girl from the recent I*******m prank video that had gone viral among the Junior Class. Laughter followed in her wake, but Ruby paid no heed to the onlookers. Her sole focus was finding the person responsible for her seething anger.

MIYARA Two days. That’s how long it had taken for the video to vanish from every campus page, every group chat, and every whispered conversation. One morning it was everywhere. The next, it was gone — like someone had wiped it clean with a single click. Isa had come back to the dorm that same night, silent and exhausted. She didn’t explain where she’d been, and I didn’t ask. The air between us felt thick, but at least she was here.

★ "Banks!" A girl rushed into the park, breathing heavily as sweat covered her face. It's obvious she ran a long distance here. A guy came running behind her, sweating equally. "He's gone?" He breathed. "I'll just talk to him tomorrow" the girl replied. They're siblings. The girl is Rue while the guy is Jeremy, he's older with a year. Rue threw her backpack at him. "Meet me in the car" she rolled her eyes as she walked off.

The video call came to an abrupt halt. I stared at my reflection on the screen. It was staring back at me in disbelief. Now, I couldn't help but wonder whether it had actually happened, or whether I was hallucinating. Zoe Shamrock and I were childhood friends. I was still reeling from the sudden news, and my mind was wandering when Zoe popped up behind me and tapped my shoulder. "SAT's tomorrow, Seamus. You should be studying, not spacing out. You'll be sorry if you flunk it and don't get into Harland."

As she removed her clothes, she noticed several scratches across her back. Fighting came with injuries. She was used to treating herself one-handed. Just then— Her phone began chiming repeatedly. Glancing at the screen, she saw several messages from an unsaved number. "Can you come to work tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.? Three hundred dollars a day. Any objections?" Frowning, Rue picked up her phone and replied with a single word. "Okay." Then she suddenly remembered something and quickly sent another message. [How do I contact you? Should I find you at the hospital?]

“Huh? Mom, do you know Uncle Alaric is seeing someone now?” Just like that, I snapped out of my daze, my eyes narrowing at his words. It seemed I wasn’t the only one shocked because even my father and mother turned their attention to Ryan and my aunt screamed, “Really?! That brat is seeing someone? Are you sure?” Ryan nodded and turned his phone for everyone to see. “Yes, apparently her name is Isla Ashford. There’s a video circulating of them on the internet. It’s what everyone is talking about.” My gaze darkened the moment I heard her name. My aunt immediately reached out and snatched the phone from him, her eyes widening as she stared at the video playing.

I'm on my knees in the hallway, scrubbing. The water in the bucket turned red hours ago, but I keep going. The bristles tear at my skin. Good. Pain is better than remembering the wet crunch when Ryan's neck snapped. “Irene.” Brielle's voice is soft behind me. I don't stop scrubbing. “Irene, it's past dusk. Come back to the quarters.” I slam the brush down. “No. I'm not leaving until every drop of his blood is gone.”

I commented one line. [Everything in there is going to be yours soon enough.] It took less than a minute for Mason to call me. I had been about to bring up the divorce. He went off before I could open my mouth. "Lara. What is this? "Maya is a sister to me. That is all she has ever been. "She had an accident. I bought her a present. She put on one of your dresses for the photo. What is your problem with that? Why do you have to go after her in public?"
