It is the strange man I first saw in Ramsey’s house, the leader of the rogues. “Luna.” He says with a mocking bow when he spots me. Against my better judgment, I decide to have a conversation with him. “I’ve seen you around so many times and I still don’t know your name.” The rogue takes out a lighter from his pocket and lights the cigarette in his mouth. “Ryder.” He says, blowing smoke in my direction. “You’re not supposed to smoke here.” I say, waving away the smoke he blew my way. “Sorry.” He says but doesn’t put out the cigarette.

“Animals? Don’t tell me you dragged me all the way here for some children’s story. Wolves are beasts, not men. You expect me to believe this place is a nest of fairy tales?” Ryder shrugged, the corner of his mouth curving faintly. “Believe what you want. Animal or human, it doesn’t matter. We are what we are.” The way he said it… calm, almost careless, yet with weight behind the words, made something twist in my stomach. I didn’t like his tone. I gave him more distance, letting him walk a step ahead. My gut told me not to trust him, but my goal was clear, and I wouldn’t back out now.
