We froze. Midnight was filled with joy, yet still a bit hesitant. Ryder waited until he sat two feet away from her, then asked him again. "So what flower would you be?" Midnight ignored her question. "What would you be?" "A Pansy," Ryder answered without hesitation, a proud grin on her face. "Why?" Ryder shrugged. She extended the bag of chips at Midnight and waited until he picked the chips and put them in his mouth before answering. "They're cute. They look like little grumpy dwarves."

Ryder lifted his gaze to my eyes then his cheeks reddened and he quickly looked away. “You already know I am not that great at school.” “Yeah, you pretty much suck.” Ryder glared at me and I shrugged, saying “Sucking is not bad” in order to save myself. “Anyway,” Ryder continued, “The reason why I need this job is because I want to hire a tutor. I need a huge help if I want to pass the finals. You are pretty smart so I was thinking you could tutor me and in exchange for your help, I will be your caregiver for free.”

Madam Amelia seemed to know this as she nodded her head at me. “Now what? You can’t break your vow. What will you do? You can’t have a Wolf Rider running around Astoria.” There it was. She knew what her daughter was. The half human part of it was the least of it. The fact that she was a Rider—a creature that could control a werewolf with a simple command. A creature that ruined my family's life. A creature, who must be destroyed before it gains power. There hasn't been a rider born in half a century, and even before, there was only one that ruled Astoria.

He got into deeper shits than Drew did and oftentimes Ryder joined him. And Ryder always felt like he was untouchable and did whatever he wanted, that being getting all the girls, the finest cars and causing trouble. Including pissing me off. When it opened its mouth, I saw rows of teeth no human should have. "Silver rounds," Cain ordered. "Aim for center mass." They opened fire and the creature shrieked. It kept coming even with bullets hitting it, moving faster than anything that size should be able to move. Ryder dropped his rifle and shifted. One second he was human and the next he was a massive black wolf charging at the creature. They collided in a tangle of fur and claws and those horrible teeth. Jax and Cain kept firing but were careful not to hit Ryder. The creature was strong and fast but Ryder was stronger. He got his jaws around its throat and bit down hard.
