I was changing, and though I hadn’t yet fully understood it, I knew this change wasn’t one I could turn back from.
The map lay in front of me, its edges weathered and torn. A prisoner’s crude scribbling—an attempt at escape, a plea for understanding, a promise of something bigger than this hellhole.
It had been here for who knows how long, yet its significance was only now beginning to unfurl before me. But there was something else about it.
