Enzo chuckled beside me, squeezing my hand under the table as we sat down.
Breakfast started light. We talked about the weather, the drive back to the city, and how beautiful the garden looked in the morning light.
But halfway through, Mrs. Romano set her coffee down and leaned forward, eyes sparkling with excitement.
“So,” she said, looking between us, “let’s talk dates. Spring is beautiful. April or May? Early May would be perfect — flowers everywhere, not too hot. What do you think, Lila?”
