Slapshot Awakening
He finishes the drill and slows to a glide, cheeks flushed, a small smirk tugging at his lips as he coasts toward me.
“Don’t say it,” he says, pulling out one of his earbuds. “I already know I can’t shoot.”
“You can’t,” I agree, holding his gaze. “But your footwork? That’s fucking lethal.”
He shrugs, like it’s no big deal, but I can see the way his shoulders lift, just a little, like the compliment lands somewhere deeper than he expected.
“Skating’s the only thing I’m still sure of,” he says quietly. “Everything else is a mess.”
