" I smiled feeling so full of myself for talking back to her. Actually I never take shit from anyone, but this felt so good, I felt so alive. At least it would stand as a pay back for what she said to me at the Audition. I got out of the company and began to walk down the street. I actually didn't have any where important to go, so I though of calling my girlfriend Susan. Her place would be the best to spend my day. As I walked, I looked Into my bag searching for my phone when I mistakenly hit someone in the process. I wasn't looking up at all, what did I expect?

He opened the car and carry me in his arms. "Hmm...I'm liking this already. Let's just snuggled and watch some movies." "Sure, we can do that if you want." He carried me and put me down, once we reached the sofa. "Ice cream, chocolate, or popcorn?" He asked me while walking to the kitchen. "James baby, you're speaking my language now. Ice cream, please. I'm taking a quick shower first, you can pick the movie." Half an hour later we cuddled up in front of the TV freshly showered, ice cream in hand, and watching some zombie apocalypse. I was holding my breath every five seconds. "This is a very frustrating movie, James."

Clay shouted as if he had x-ray vision or telepathy to know what drink his twin had selected. “I CAN AND I WILL! CONSIDER IT A DOWN PAYMENT ON YOU OWING ME!” Reese shouted back, popping the top and taking a sip with that same satisfying sigh Clay made when he drank it. Unlike with Clay Reese making that sound wasn’t a turn-on. “So you’ve survived meeting Sophia Grace Frost and are still here. That says a lot.” Reese nodded. “Trust me meeting her at a hospital is less awkward than how she met Don.” She sighed as she set the soda down.

I recognized the name, the kind of company that had been built specifically around athletes who existed outside the traditional mold, whose roster read like a list of people who'd decided authenticity was worth more than the alternative. The next day, Sophia sent me a polite but pointed email “suggesting” we swap two artists to avoid “unnecessary overlap.” Theo followed up with a casual lunch invitation that felt more like a trap than a friendly gesture.

If they already saw me as an outsider, why was I still trying so hard to belong? I scoffed, "I don't want anything. I wish you and your family a lifetime of happiness." With that, I turned and went to the bedroom to pack my things. Sophie followed me into the room and slapped me across the face. "It's New Year's! What kind of attitude is that? It's just an apple. Do you have to turn the whole house upside down over something so small? Julius already feels awkward in this family. After your little scene, just how embarrassed do you think he is?

I chew on my bottom lip before looking up at him through my eyelashes before passing him the wad of cash in my pocket. “Obviously,” he says a little too eagerly before handing me my weed. Blowing him a little kiss, I swing my hips as I walk out of the dispensary and to the bar next door. Heading to the back of the building I see that Sophie is already leaning up against the back wall smoking a joint. “Is it that bad already?” I laugh as I pull open the back door. Carefully she snuffs out the light and puts the rest of the joint in a small metal container she keeps in her pocket. “It’s a Thursday night. The crowd is always rougher on a Thursday.”

So I walk in. Callum's at the stove, spatula in hand, wearing that oversized NFL hoodie he never washes. His back is to me, broad and solid, and he's flipping a pancake with the kind of casual confidence that comes from years of feeding himself after practice. He doesn't turn around when I enter, just lifts the spatula in greeting. "Syrup's on the counter. Coffee's fresh."

The member list in the channel was painfully clear, showing only four avatars: my father, my mother, my brother, and Bella. My brother, Enzo, replied a moment later, "Just the four of us. Don't call Aurora." "If she comes, she'll just find another excuse to bully Bella." I stared at the words, frozen. It dawned on me then. In this family, I had been the outsider all along. ... As if on cue, my mother's call came through. "Aurora, there's a sudden sit-down with the capos. We won't be back at the manor tonight."

Mom then turned to me, looking at me with a pained and aggrieved expression once again. "Rene! Are you seriously going to let your dad and your brothers go to jail? They just made a mistake! It was just a family disagreement that should be easily forgiven!" I wiped the blood from my mouth again. "A mistake? You call it a mistake that you all punched, kicked, and forced me, your own biological daughter, their biological sister, to grovel and beg, all for the sake of an outsider? "Tell me the truth, Mom. I'm not your biological daughter, am I? It's Vivian who is your actual daughter, right?"
