Sometimes it looks like knowing when to ask for help.
Training Libby is not what I expect. I expect questions, nervous chatter, or awkward jokes to fill the silence. What I get instead is tension so tight I can practically hear it humming. She stands just inside the bookstore door like she’s bracing for impact, shoulders squared, hands folded together like she’s afraid of touching anything without permission. Her eyes move constantly looking at shelves, counter, register, exits.
Cataloging. Preparing. Survival mode.
“This is Sofia,” I say, gesturing toward the counter. “My sister. The actual boss.”
