I mutter, setting my beer down as she nears.
“Knox,” she says with that same slow, sultry drawl she’s always used when she wants something. “Been a while.”
“Yeah, it has,” I say, keeping my tone even and polite. I nod once, offering the kind of acknowledgment that doesn’t invite too much.
Before I can say anything else, Echo stands up from beside me without a word and gestures to the now-vacant seat.
“Don’t mind me,” he says casually, though there’s nothing casual about the smirk he throws my way as he moves to another booth.
