“Yeah, we’re going notebook shopping.” “Okay ma’am, please give me a few seconds.” A loud motorcycle pulled up in front of the gate. I frowned, looking through the beams to try and see who it was. “Someone’s at the gate!” I called after Steve. “Yes, that’s Thomas.” Steven said letting him in with the press of a button. I watched him park his bike outside the gate. He pulled his helmet off, removed his gloves and then ran his hand through his hair as if combing it. He then turned and saw me for the first time.

Thick wooden doors reinforced by metal plates and long spikes, with a latticed metal grille. Flanking towers that control access stand on either side guarded by the sentinels, and a 30ft high and 10ft thick stone wall encases the village. We covered it in six minutes. The gates were reinforced steel, guarded by men with thermal scopes and silver-tipped rounds. They didn't even have time to check their monitors. I hit the gate at forty miles an hour, the metal screeching as it tore off its hinges. Caleb was a blur of violence beside me, his hands finding throats and limbs before the guards could even chamber a round. It wasn't a fight. It was a harvest. We reached the main house. The oak doors were locked. I didn't knock. I put my shoulder through the wood, the ancient timber splintering like matchsticks.

Heavy, reinforced titanium-steel doors, thirty feet high, etched with thousands of overlapping defensive shield runes. To any normal army, it was an impassable wall.
