They approached the checkpoint—a massive, reinforced gatehouse made of black basalt and reinforced iron. The lanterns above the gate burned with a flickering, blueish light that seemed to pulse in time with the shifting wind. Two guards stood at the entrance, their armor polished to a mirror sheen, the Silver Moon crest embossed on their chest plates. As they drew closer, the lead guard stepped forward, his spear leveled at Aiden’s chest. "Identification," the guard barked, his voice amplified by the acoustics of the gatehouse.

Mina had jokingly given the ship a name since its previous name was just a bunch of numbers. "You guys may want to find some cover." Vosten turned to look at her. "Why is that agent?" Carmen smiled. "Because the heat is about to get turned up in here and doubt that you elites could handle it." As she finished, she charged at the company of soldiers standing in front of the doors. The foreboding bars, clamped shut over the structure’s hollow opening, were only made more grim by the effects that time had over its once pristine stones and columns. The walls were high and solid, made of grey stone fitted together by skilled hands. They were not the rough walls of a fort, but the finished walls of a town that meant to stay. Smoke rose from several chimneys inside. The gates were made of heavy, dark timber, banded with iron. And they were open.

They passed by skyscrapers, old buildings, and fancy neighborhoods, it didn’t take long for Halle to realize that they had left the capital, and strangely enough, she had expected that the Stones would live in the capital just like the other high folk. Halle knew she was tired but she was enjoying the view, it counted as a good distraction from her nervously beating heart. Hayley stood in front of a towering iron gate, easily over ten feet high, grand enough to feel like the entrance to a fortress. Even the guard booths looked like military-grade sentry posts. But there wasn't a single competent guard left inside. Her gaze settled on one of the booths with its door hanging open. The main gate was still locked, but the booth door was broken. Both the front and back booth doors had been wrecked, and one of them was hanging halfway off its frame.

Chapter 10: Echoes of Destruction The rusted iron gates of the obsidian citadel loomed before them, a gaping maw in the desolate crimson landscape. Behind them, the monstrous creatures howled in frustration, their metallic claws scraping against the barren rock. Evie and Liam, hearts pounding in their chests, sprinted towards the gate, desperate for any semblance of refuge. With a resounding clang, the gate swung open, revealing a dark, cavernous entrance. Without hesitation, they plunged into the cool, stale air that emanated from within. The heavy gate slammed shut behind them, momentarily cutting off the sounds of the pursuing horde.

We need to move." The passage on the other side was narrow and dark. Elena could hear the warriors on the other side, trying to force the gate.

The rest of the guards salute the General in unison, but he ignores them completely. In a second, we storm in headed to the second gate where Mateo, that fucktard, usually is. This time round things are easier because of Sylvester Stone. No need to put up a fight with Mateo, when he sees Mr Stone, he stands up saluting quickly.
