As the echoes faded, the silver veins in the earth began to pulse faster, spreading outward like wildfire toward the Gate. The wind screamed through the gorge as Kaelen crested the ridge. The world below no longer looked like the valley he’d sworn to protect. The ground pulsed with veins of light, rivers of silver snaking between shattered stones. The air shimmered like molten glass, bending and breaking the rain into prisms. And at the center of it all stood the Gate—a colossal arch of fractured crystal half-buried in the mountain. Its surface rippled like water, reflecting skies that didn’t belong to this world.

An obsidian stone is inside my seal, and the guards fall over themselves to let us inside once they know who I am. The wall is ridiculously tall, made of thick, reinforced steel. I crane my neck back, move my hair back to see it all. The portly guard pulls a lever, and a portion of it lowers. Clunky and groaning, the ice flys out, the gate forcing its way open. The gate lowers completely, warm water slowly trickles out, and the inside of Estate Eclipse is steaming. I grab onto Dante and he helps me past the blocks of ice until we cross the other side of the gate.

A huge black steeled-gate with beautiful angels design is standing at the side of the road. “We’ve arrived.” He states. I look at him with a mixture expression between happy and surprise. He giggles. I can see a security post near the gate. The security guards seem like they’re pressing something and then the gate open automatically. We get down from the car just as Cain’s car has entered the yard.

I vaulted down the stairs right behind him, swinging my leg over the Sovereign. "You aren't going out there alone," I told him, kicking the engine to life. The deep, flawless Origin-Code combustion purred beneath me. "Wouldn't dream of it, Ghost," Dax said, pulling his bandana up over his nose. The massive hydraulic gears of Coldwater’s main gates groaned. Dust and rust fell from the hinges as the sixty-foot durasteel doors slowly parted, revealing the sprawling, chaotic army waiting outside. The roar of the crowd died down instantly. Thousands of eyes locked onto the gates.

It wasn’t actually hard to find it, since all the houses in DaggerStone were quite small and boring, the only one that stood out was actually at the outskirts and its huge roof could be seen from far away. We finally made it there, stopping in front of two huge iron gates, each decorated with a huge S in the middle. I stopped the engine, intending to get out and look for someone around there, but got stopped in my tracks by the sudden movement of the gates, noticing they started to slowly open for us so I sat in my place, waiting to have enough space to pass through the gates, then started the engine and moved forward.

It appeared that Count David had grown tired of gazing at my disdainful expression; at last, he uttered, "Unbolt the gate and extend a warm greeting to our visitor." At his command, the soldiers standing behind him swiftly sprang into action. A mystical incantation echoed through the air, and the resounding clocks and clatters of the metal gate reverberated around us. The seemingly fragile city gate, when viewed from the outside, revealed itself to be over a meter thick. The gate was a curious blend of natural wood and enchanted steel, with only the initial few inches crafted from the former and the remainder fortified with the latter. [Reinforced Metal II]

Just the arrogance of excess money, confidently invisible. Junior shifted beside Nevena, blinking up at the seamless structure. It held the kind of intimidation that wraps itself around one's lungs. “This is…the gate?” Nevena said under her breath. Junior whistled. “This is definitely where Skynet lives.” Nevena chuckled. “Yeah—the gate alone looks like it cost more than New Mexico itself,” “Excessive at its peak.” Junior agreed, staring at his reflection on the obsidian surface. “Miss Nevena! How do we get in?”

"If that monster hits the lower gate with that hammer, the whole iron structure will fold like wet paper!" Down on the lower mud floor of the courtyard, Justin stood near the heavy steel doors of the main gate. The wind howled through the narrow kill-zone, dragging thick sheets of dark rain over his leather coat. Blood still seeped through his bandages, hot and sticky against his ribs, but his fingers held his heavy assault rifle with a steady, lethal grip. Thirty capital soldiers stood behind him in tight tactical formation, their faces pale under their black helmets.

Chapter 8 Alpha Lir POV We arrived at Downbridge gate, and their guards were stiff enough not to bow and that was the first thing that grated on my nerves. At Silvercrest, the gates parted like the Red Sea when my motorcade approached. Here, two guards in a dark heavy combat suit made from a strange, dull-looking fabric stepped into the road and forced my driver to roll down the window. “Identification,” the guard said in a flat voice. He didn’t care about the Silvercrest symbol on the hood.

The gateman and the driver were staring at us in bewilderment. 'Adamu, please open the gate.' Mom said as soon as she entered the car. 'Aah Aah. Madam, Abeg take am easy. Make Oga come first.' 'Open the Gate, my friend.' He jumped at the intensity of her voice and he exchanged a brief glance with the driver before he opened the gate. She zoomed off without a backward glance. 'Uthman, wetin happen? Why Madam dey pack comot?'
