“God—I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to! Are you okay?!” The door burst open behind me. “Chloe!” Stella’s voice was breathless. I turned to her. “Stella…” She stormed toward us, grabbed him by the collar, and yanked him off me. He flopped onto the couch, chuckling. “You should really be nicer to your older brother,” he said with a grin. Older… what? “Shut up, asshole,” Stella growled. “Are you insane?!” I blinked, looking at both of them. “Wait. Did he just say…your brother?”

"And what will you tell them? That you caught your stepbrother jerking off in his office and you stood there watching?" Heat flooded Inés's face. "I told you! I wasn't watching." "Yes. You were." The sound of zombies gnawing on flesh echoed from outside the base, together with the constant thud of their bodies slamming against the gates. My eyes snapped open. I had somehow returned to the day the zombies had besieged the city. I rushed straight to the command center and sounded the alarm. June Morgan, my sister-in-law, grabbed my arm in confusion. “Eira, why did you suddenly sound the alarm? Zombies are everywhere outside the base. Some noise is normal.” I had no time to explain. I grabbed her and Poppy’s hands and rushed toward the air-raid shelter.

I was beginning to wonder if he was the same man from last night or if they both just happened to look alike. I led Stephen to the staircase and once I was sure no one was watching us.
