Then I tip her chin up and look her in the eyes. “You’re not a maybe, Emilie.” She blinks. “You’re not some background character in my story. You’re it. You’re the plot. The arc. The whole damn book.” Her breath catches. “Nobody’s leaving. Especially not me.” We don’t say anything for a while after that. There is just breath and us living the moment. Her hand finds mine under the sheets, our fingers tangling like they are made to. The sun is starting to rise with a little light creeping in through the curtains.

As I took small bites of my meal, my mind wandered back to the book's descriptions. When breakfast was finally over, I excused myself politely and headed back to the garden. I retrieved the book from its hiding place and found a secluded spot where I could read in peace. The more I read, the more I realized how much had been lost to history. The white wolves were not the monsters they had been made out to be. They were beings of incredible power and kindness, who had only sought to live in harmony with others.

Page by page. the book disappeared. The woman gasped. "The White Book..." "It's gone." The First Reader quietly shook his head. "No." "It has become something greater." The glowing particles gathered around Adrian's right hand. Slowly... they transformed into a simple white feather. No cover. No pages. No ink. Only a feather. Elias looked at it and whispered, "So the Book has finally chosen its final form." Adrian held the feather carefully. It felt almost weightless. Yet memories flooded through his mind.

I whispered. A fresh wave of nausea hit, memories pushing like claws against the walls of my mind, shadows of a past life I had spent years trying to understand. This book...This book was the answer. This was the ritual Darren used to kill me, to kill my baby, to take power for himself.

"You know the rule. Once you let a man like me in, you don't get to push me away. I don't dabble. When I take something, I take it all." I tilted my head back, my lips slightly parted. My tongue darted out to wet my lower lip. An unconscious move that made his Adam's apple bob. "Take it all? Then why the hesitation?" I stepped closer, my body pressing tight against his. My voice dropped to a seductive purr."Swallow me whole, or savor every inch. I'll take either. But stop pretending you're not dying to taste me." As I spoke, my legs gave way. I collapsed into his arms, my head falling on his shoulder. Warm breath brushed his neck.

The bottle tilts and the dark liquid spill in my mouth. The second it hits my tongue it burns. It burns like acid, like fire, like swallowing a glass dipped in rot. My body lurches, gagging, trying to reject it but Alwina clamps her hand over my mouth. I try to not swallow it but she then uses her free hand to press down on my stomach so painfully that I gasp.
