Yrah had her money on Gresso. When she was a girl, she read “The Jungle Book,” and a character in it had always stuck with her. It wasn’t Mowgli, Baloo, or Bagheera, the wise panther. It was the battle-torn Shere Khan, the ferocious tiger who’d killed Mowgli’s parents. He had a scar on his face, too, from the torch the Mowgli’s dad had brandished at him. He was blind in one eye because of it. He was a loner. She’d always felt sorry for Shere Khan, and Ate Bella used to make fun of her for not “understanding” the point of the story. Gresso reminded her of Shere Khan. Once a majestic tiger, he was brought down by circumstances beyond his control.

I was not so silent following in his shadow, my shoes slipping in the mud and my cloak catching on twigs. “There were servants, but…” He shook his head. “They either don’t last long, or they’re not very friendly. There were some brethren in the forest, but they’re not same as around the castle here. They’re wilder, less trusting of humans. There was a hobgoblin that I was trying to win over. I’d bring him cakes from the village. They like honey…” He smiled slightly at a memory.

Suddenly, a voice echoed through the surroundings, deep and loaded with malice. He was the leader of that territory, revealing himself before us. His name was Valarok, a sinister being who fed on the energy of the disease, becoming increasingly powerful. "You are foolish to believe that you can challenge my supremacy!" Roared Valarok, his eyes shining with an evil fire. I looked at Randall and saw the determination in his eyes. He positioned himself between me and the villain, ready to face the battle.

For a moment I thought he’s going to hurt her, but then he just lowers his face and kisses her squarely on the lips. And she kisses him back. Suddenly all the puzzle pieces fall together. All along the villain that I thought I would face was Father, but it’s Uncle Osman. Uncle Osman and Queen Zuri are the real puppeteers, pulling the strings and making things happen. The only question left for me now is how.
