My wolf suggested and I burst into laughter. It was a loud bitter sound which carried all the pain in my heart for being rejected for an omega. “Seek my fated mate? Is this a joke? Why will I seek a lowlife? Is there any other powerful person other than Damon? Damon is the only man for me! I can’t imagine myself being with anybody lower! I was destined for greatness! For immense power and only Damon can give me what I want! He's the only one for me now, quit whining about some stupid person!” I retorted at my wolf who grumbled in return.

"I reject you as my mate, Aurora Hale." His words echoed in my mind, each syllable a knife twisting in my heart. My wolf, usually so quiet, whimpered continuously, a sound I couldn't silence no matter how I tried. News had spread through the pack like wildfire. From my window, I'd watched groups gather throughout the evening, heads bent together in eager discussion. Even with my enhanced hearing, I'd only caught fragments: "an omega as Luna" "Alpha rejected her in front of everyone" "James Hale's daughter, the traitor’s family"

"You can't do this to me, Bryan. You can't—" He came up to me with a speed my wolf could never pull off. He grabbed me by the neck like I was a rag doll and leaned closer to me. "I can, and I have done it! Now accept the rejection!" He yelled in my face. My eyes blinked as I realized how serious this was. If I accepted his rejection, I could die. "Bryan, I am an omega." I whimpered, unable to complete the sentence. My wolf would never be able to survive the rejection.

His words settled somewhere deep inside me. "You are still Rowan, but what if my name isn't even real?" "Then the man who bears it still is." I stared at him. There was something comforting about the way he spoke. Not because he promised everything would be alright, because he never made promises he couldn't keep. A second knock sounded, this time it was firmer. "Enter." The doors opened, and three wolves stepped inside. All of them bowed. The first was an older Beta with streaks of gray in his dark hair, his shoulders were broad despite his age, and a long scar ran across one side of his face.

And yet, my wolf howled for him. This was no ordinary omega. This was something more. “He’s an omega. That explains a lot. And by his countenance… he must have been rejected by his mate.” The words struck me like a hidden blade. “Did he get rejected?” I asked sharply. “Wh.., what, what do you mean by that?” The man stuttered, his unease twisting into anger. “I ran into him. He was crying.” “Who rejects one chosen by the moon goddess herself?” his voice thundered, my wolf bristling.

The words flowed from my heart onto the paper, my tears blurring the ink as I put my innermost feelings into words: "To those who may care, I can't bear it any longer. The pain is too much, the torment too relentless. The rejection from my mate, Damon, has shattered me, and I can't find solace in this world any longer. I've always been the weak one, the Omega who was a disappointment to my family. I endured the abuse, the taunts, and the humiliation, but now it's become unbearable. What caused her to run away? As I stood there, my mind whirling, footsteps approached from behind me. I turned, and my heart sank. Alpha Quinn strode toward me, flanked by several of the high-ranking wolves from his pack. “Look at me when I’m talking to you, bitch.” I met his gaze. His pupils were slit like a cat’s, a side effect of whatever concoction he’d swallowed to mimic a wolf’s night vision. Pathetic. Just like Father. He grinned, yellowed teeth glinting. “Good girl. Now kneel.” The chain jerked downward. My knees hit stone, pain radiating up my thighs. His fingers tangled in my hair, forcing my face toward the rug where his previous “pet” had died—a wiry omega girl whose blood still darkened the fibers.
