The younger wolves ran errands under the strict commands of their elders, while the older ones gave instructions in clipped tones, voices carrying over the crackling fires already being prepared for the feast. She pats her abdomen for emphasis. Once she closes the door to her room behind her, she finds herself pacing back and forth, desperate for something to do. She can't seem to sit for too long. Her eye catches a book she's been wanting to read. Reading hasn't exactly fit her mood lately. In one swift motion, she grabs the novel off the shelf, jumps into bed, and opens to the first chapter.

The woman climbed a short ladder and began pulling down a few books. “These should help,” she said, setting five large, dusty tomes on a nearby table. “Sorry about the condition they’re ancient. Let me know if you need anything.” “Thank you,” Anna said as the woman walked away. Rhea and Anna sat cross-legged on the floor beside the table, surrounded by the stack of heavy books. Their covers were worn, their spines cracked, and the pages yellowed with time. Each had a unique title: 'Tales of the Mystical Creatures', 'Powers', 'Hidden Behind the Voice', and two others with faded letters too difficult to read.

“What was?” “Going after her like that,” he said, a thread of irritation slipping into his voice. “You barely exchanged two words before you dragged Clara into it. Why?” Lyana’s smile thinned, just a flicker. “Because she needed reminding of where she stands. Women like Irene… they show up with sharp eyes and sharp tongues, thinking they belong in every room.
