I stepped past him—close enough that my shoulder brushed his arm, close enough that he could smell my perfume, the same one I’d worn since I was eighteen because Chase had told me once, in the dark, that it smelled like something he wanted to fall asleep inside—and crouched beside the booth.
The printer wasn’t jammed. A strip of four photos was emerging from the slot, face-up, still warm. Tyler, Chase, DuPont, and Jax, all in oversized sunglasses, all making faces. Chase was smiling in the third frame—a real smile, the kind that cracked through when Tyler did something stupid enough to bypass the armor.
I picked up the strip.
“Tyler looks deranged,” I said.
