Tom Lake Ending Explained Novels & Stories

A broken scream tore from my throat. “Mom!” The flesh on my hands was shredded. Even that pain was nothing compared to the pain in my heart. Memories of all the sweet moments I once shared with Suzanna flashed through my mind. Regret and hatred twisted inside me until I coughed up blood and collapsed. As my consciousness faded, I whispered, “Suzanna, from this moment on, we mean nothing to each other anymore.”

“Everything that was said was just a means to an end. From the start, Chloe is the only one Elijah has ever loved.” With that, Tyler dislocated my jaw. An agonizing pain spread through my lower face, and saliva mixed with streaks of blood spilled down my chin. Tyler let go of me abruptly, making no attempt to hide the sheer disgust in his eyes.

I saw Mike go down, his wolf form buried under a pile of attackers. “Mike!” I screamed, but I couldn’t reach him. A sharp blow to my back sent me to the ground, and darkness crept at the edges of my vision. The last thing I saw was Tom standing over me, his smile cold and triumphant. “This time,” he said softly, “I win.”

Liam sighed weary, deep down, a nagging suspicion emerged, suggesting that the tragic incident of Tommy's house burning down might not have been a mere accident, but rather the organization's doing. Indeed, it was becoming evident to Liam that the organization must have discovered Tommy's alliance with him in their shared battle against their impressively powerful opponents. The realization painted a clear and somber picture. Liam was suspecting that Tommy had been targeted for elimination as a consequence of his involvement with him. As this revelation sank in, Liam couldn't help but find the pieces of the puzzle fitting together with unnerving coherence.

Don’t destroy our future! I still didn’t reply. His messages turned angry. [Liam: You think you’ve won?] [Liam: You can’t win this game without me!] [Liam: Chloe has weapons! Tom has strength! What do you have?] [Liam: You need my teleport ability! You need my help!] Finally, he snapped. [Liam: Fine! You want to play? Let’s play!] [Liam: You think you’re safe in that studio? I will find you. And when I do, I'll make you wish you were deaf.]

“He doesn’t care who survives anymore. Not hybrids. Not wolves. Not humans. If it spreads through the water system…” He didn’t finish. He didn’t need to. Luciano stepped forward slowly. “That’s not a war. That’s extinction.” “Yes,” Tomas said. “And he’s almost ready.” This wasn’t about packs anymore.. Or territory.. Or power. This was the end of everything. “Why tell us?” I asked. Tomas laughed once. It wasn’t humor. It was broken. “Because there’s someone I can’t lose.” I stiffened. “A girl,” he said. “Southern territories. She works in a clinic. She thinks I’m dead.”

I changed the subject to what we were interested in. “Your fiancé’s mind was as sick as could be. It’s a good thing you got rid of him after all. Nature helped you.” It was unnecessary to reveal to Logan that Tom got killed by werewolves and that he was hundreds of years old. He wouldn’t believe it, and it would jeopardize our mission. I needed him with a clear head. “Yeah, whatever… Let’s assume Tom is in a better place where he won’t give us any trouble.”
