We make it back to the house, and I grab my things so Marley can take me to the airport. At the Airport terminal, Marley starts to cry, and I pull her into a hug. "Hey, don't cry, I'll see you soon," I told her. "I wish we were closer," She states. “I know me too,” I say. “Terminal 34 is departing please proceed to the designated area.” They say over the intercom. We hug one more time and say goodbye.

She returned her focus to the road “What ice cream truck? I didn't see any” Timmy said, still searching the road. Rosa took a turn; we were nearing the airport. “You missed it.” We all fell into a comfortable silence for the rest of the ride. At last, we reached our destination. We approached the gates, and the twins' excitement was palpable. They squealed and bounced on their heels with megawatt smiles on their faces. “The flight to Boston leaves in twenty minutes,” came the announcement over the loudspeaker.

Chapter 10 “Touchdown,” I whispered as the wheels hit the tarmac. Theo sat up straight beside me, eyes glued to the window. “We’re in New York, mama?” “We are, baby.” He leaned closer, fogging the glass with his breath. “It’s so big.” “Yeah,” I murmured. “It always was.” The airport was crowded, loud as usual. “Don’t let go of my hand, okay?” I said. He nodded, clutching my hand tightly, his eyes wide as we stepped through the automatic doors at JFK.

Tabitha scrolls through her tablet, reviewing documents, I stare out the window, watching the city move past us. We approach the airport. But we don’t stop at the usual spot. Instead, we take a different turn. And another. And another. “Um… are we lost?” I ask. “No,” Tabitha replies casually. We drive further away from the crowded terminals. Until I see it. A separate entrance. Less chaotic and more serene. At the entrance, it reads: ‘Private Owned Aircrafts.’ I blink. “Tabitha,” I say slowly, “why are we here?”

Large, innocent, and heart-melting. I always put contacts, but she didn’t like them, so I let her be. I sighed, defeated. “Fine. But no running. No wandering. No questions every five seconds.” “I promise!” She bounced, careful not to wake her brothers. The airport was busy but manageable. Thankfully, the lost-and-found section had kept my iPad safe. The staff returned it with a smile. Relief washed over me like a warm blanket. “Let’s go, baby,” I told Maya, taking her hand.

She fills the glass two more times before my brain shuts off! When the plane lands in New York, Spin wakes me… But I’m not a morning person, no matter what time of day I wake up! I grumpily march through the airport, to the luggage carousel and plop down on my butt right in the middle of the chaos. Spin stacks the suitcases so that he alone can drag them out to the long-term parking space, leaving me to have my tantrum! I climb into the Hummer and return to my peaceful state of slumber before he makes it out of the airport’s terminal.

Glancing outside the window, I see us pulling up to the airport; they weren't as packed as I thought it would be; not wanting to miss the plan, we swiftly made our way into the airport. Looking up at the flight information display, once I found what I was looking for, I started heading that way. I gently place Jess down on the seat before waking her up; as she wakes up, everyone else sits across from us as we listen to the overhead.
