I leaned in a fraction of an inch, a teasing glint in my eyes, "I prefer classic literature. Russian realism, psychological thrillers. Dostoyevsky, Fitzgerald, Hemingway. I like substance." "Substance?!" Ruby mocked, completely offended. "Are you implying my romance novels don't have substance? Excuse you, but enemies-to-lovers tropes require intense psychological maneuvering! The angst! The tension! It's art, Alexander. Your little Russian thrillers have nothing on a slow-burn romance."

I said softly, “how you can write multiple romances based on a single topic.” “Hm,” Rome murmured. “For example,” I continued, my thoughts flowing more freely now, “two people might meet at the same place. A cafe. A workplace. A school. But the way they fall in love will never be identical.” Rome leaned slightly closer to the railing beside me. “Why is that?” he asked. “Because people are different,” I said. “Their wounds are different. Their fears are different. Their hopes are different.” He nodded slowly.

Pushing my hair to the back of my ear, I flip the page of the new book and read through each line. I roll my eyes and scoff. Romance. How can a character’s first interest be about a man? Doesn’t she love coins? Food? Fashion, or even education? Why must it be a man?

Then, Paige started to imagine. As a young and fashionable girl… Wait, no. She was now a young married woman. As a fashionable young woman following the trend, she had read plenty of CEO novels. CEO novels mainly unfolded from the female protagonist’s perspective and mainly revolved around her. In earlier years, many female protagonists in CEO novels were set up by family, friends, and various schemes. The most common trap for the female protagonist in CEO novels was to be compromised. Although the female lead would not lose her virginity to anyone other than the CEO, the malicious supporting female characters were there to plot against the female lead, attempting to compromise her.

If I put them into another novel as the main character, the novel would be tagged with the #DarkRomance trope. These are just my thoughts, but what do you think about them?
