A week later, House Six stood deep underground in Bunker 039. The air was colder this far down. More metallic. It scraped the lungs on inhale. "Okay," Samuel exhaled, stretching his arms behind his head. "We've officially seen some crazy shit." He wasn’t wrong. Bunker 027 had held fossilized bones of a creature that resembled a dinosaur but not any species known to science. Its skull had six eye sockets. Bunker 031 was an untouched treasure vault, overflowing with diamonds and precious stones. Joy had called it obscene.

I leaned closer to read the handwritten notes scribbled in the margins, and the dark words made my stomach twist into a cold knot. "You are starting to scare the shit out of me," Connor admitted quietly. "The notes detail specific bone densities and healing rates, and the text describes the creatures shifting their actual skeletal structure under extreme distress," I read aloud.
