I stepped closer to my pillar and read the words aloud: "In the heart of darkness, light must shine, But alone, its glow will fade with time. By shadow’s grace, the light is freed, Together, they are one in need." Evelina joined me, reading the rest of the inscription on her side: "Through dusk and dawn, they dance as one, For without the dark, the light is undone. When both are present, the truth is clear, Together they guide, without fear." She met my eyes, understanding lighting up in her expression. "It’s a test of balance—light and dark. Both need to work in unity to move forward."

Prologue When I was a child, I enjoyed listening to my mother's stories. Portraying the never-ending struggle between darkness and light. I would always look forward to her stories, which would be very entertaining. She always told me darkness represents malevolence, while light represents positivity and virtue. Her belief was that the power of light was the sole means by which darkness could be defeated. The resounding message she would consistently convey in her stories is that light will perpetually prevail over the darkness.

No reply. I whispered into the darkness “Who are you?”

The unmistakable glow of gold in the darkness. The Dark Ones had arrived.

“They would have broken you—slowly, deliberately—until there was nothing left of you to fight back.” She trembled violently, squeezing her eyes shut as if that alone could block out his words. “They would have you trapped in a place where even your own shadow would terrify you,” he said. “A place where nothing exists but darkness to keep you company…” His voice never wavered. He sounded controlled—composed, even. But beneath it, something darker churned. Because he knew the truth behind the words he was using to scare her. Because he knew exactly how real it all was.

She wrote me back and said it would be closer to 10 that she would get there, so I just needed to be patient for another 20 minutes. I took off my clothes and left them all right in one spot, so it would be easy to find them later. I went ahead and turned the lights off, getting used to the dark. I was lost in my thoughts when I heard the click in the door. My heart immediately started racing and I thought I was going to jump out of my skin. “Hey Eve, you found me,” I said, calm and even trying not to sound too antsy. “I guess so,” I heard her beautiful voice in the dark.

Zoire said. Erimense took a deep breath,he was feeling uneasy with the story he just heard. "Mother,are you saying that the ages of darkness will come again?". He asked. Zoire nods her head. "Yes Erimense,but nobody knows how close it is already". She said,as she walked out of the sanctuary. Erimense took a step closer,to touch the paintings on the wall.Fear shuddered down his spine.Somehow,the more he looked at the picture,the more fear gripped his bones.

Damien clicked his tongue as he prepares something on his laptop. “Here. Click on enter the moment I leave the car. After that, wait for me to enter the place and then count for 60 seconds then follow me. That's a very simple instruction, you should understand.” Chris rolled his eyes at the sarcasm added at the end. “What? I’m telling you, there’s no turning back at this point. You’re with me so we won't fail but you cannot stop once we're through this. So if you're having cold feet then let's stop this instant." Chris bit his lower lip, he can't turn back anymore. The moment he made a contract with the demon, he already knew that there's no turning back.

We didn't let the darkness win. END OF VOLUME ONE

My vision was slowly turning dark until it was completely dark and I suddenly felt numb as if this was all just a dream. “I’m sorry it had to go down this way,” was the last thing I heard as darkness embraced me with welcoming arms.
