wishing for my husband's child
I slammed the door shut and asked the driver to drive away without looking back.
My only consolation, the only safe place I wanted to reach, was my home... or rather, the arms of my newborn.
When I arrived, the air in the house smelled of warm milk and lavender. My mother held him, rocking him with that infinite tenderness only she was capable of giving. My sisters, gathered around, laughed, sang, and cared for him as if he were the greatest treasure in the world. And he was. Although he was so small, so fragile, he had filled that house with hope, a house that for months had only known debts, tears, and silence.
