Chapter 02

Her necklace, that beautiful green necklace adorned across her soft skin was all that lived in my head. I kept on staring at my paper with a tiny smile while my fingers did the Justice. Drawing the most beautiful necklace I've ever seen.

That has been my routine, waking up every morning with that necklace in my head accompanied with this soothing feeling. Every time she came into my dreams, I could only catch a glimpse of her necklace alone. It made me yearn for her like my life depended on it, countless restless nights, countless drawings of that one thing. Her necklace. Her beautiful necklace. Who was this lady?

"Zeus!" My pencil stopped abruptly and my eyes moved upwards slightly to reveal Peter. His black hair wasn't messy which I found odd. He was dressed in a white shirt and a pair of jeans, another thing I found odd. My best friend wasn't one who loved looking like a gentleman. He was definitely going out with a girl.

"Someone's got a girl for the night," I remarked with a deepened smile while my eyes returned to my drawing.

"I've been standing here for minutes and you didn't notice me," Peter replied with worry that hinted faintly in his tone. I frowned a bit but still retained my smile. He heaved a sigh before joining me on the wooden chair opposite mine.

"For days now, you've been obsessed with this necklace. Come on, look at your room, it's freaking filled with this same drawing!" He pointed to the scattered large white papers around my room. I took a quick glance around my small room, rather than my clothes scattered across my bed and the floors messy with few papers and all, it looked perfect to me.

"Who is she?" He asked almost immediately as his black irises met mine. My eyes fell on my drawing again and my dreams flashed in my head like lightning.

"This is the same question I've been asking myself for days," I pursed my lips as my pencils fell while my fingers trailed softly along the outline. In a strange way, it felt like I was touching her, I could feel tiny sparks birthing from the tips of my fingers. This wasn't normal, this was beyond what I felt with the ladies I hang out with. It would have been better if my Wolf had helped but he and I were still dwelling on a fight.

"I've never met her, Peter, but it feels like I know her," I mumbled.

"And you've never seen her face in those dreams?" He asked while I wriggled my head.

"Probably one of those models you lust after. Your head must be playing tricks on you again."

I chuckled.

"This one is different. It's like there's a bond that draws me towards her every day."

"What if, what if she's your mate?" Our eyes locked again and my smile gradually faded. I never even thought of that possibility but at the same time hearing that word, Mate, struck me in a limbo. Did I want a companion or did I deserve one?

"It's probably one of those models," I replied after pondering over my question for minutes. He heaved a sigh while I walked to my bed's drawer.

"You should probably find this lady. This ceaseless dream of hers you're having is not normal," he chorused as I slipped the drawing quietly into my drawer. I smiled within myself before uttering in oblivion.

"I have a feeling our path will cross each other soon."

"Let's just hope so." Peter responded with a whisper. "Oh well," he pitched again, this time on a much lighter note. "I have to go now."

I turned sharply in his direction, giving him a suspicious look.

"You still haven't told me about this girl."

He chuckled and just when he was about to respond, my door opened abruptly.

"Zeus," said one of my teammates, Simon, as he slightly peeked his head through the door.

"Alpha Alfred is here."

My breaths ceased for a split moment as anger and mild irritation ignited within me. There was immediate silence, uneasy at that while Peter and I exchanged knowing glances.

"I'll join him in five," I coldly stated while Simon took his leave.

I arose sharply with my palms curled into a fist.

"Whatever you're going to do to that traitor, just don't kill him," Peter sternly warned while I strode to the mirror. His eyes were on me but I cared less. Rather, I drowned in the anger flourishing in my ocean blue eyes. My blonde hair was messy yet my face still retained its handsomeness.

"He's an Alpha, remember that."

I scoffed whilst tossing loose strands of my hair playfully.

"That traitor doesn't deserve to be called one."

"That doesn't mean we're ready for war if he dies by your hands." I smiled at my mirror. "We're already wanted in most Packs."

"That's an achievement, you know,” I chuckled as I finally turned to him. He rolled his eyes.

"Just don't kill him."

"I wonder why he's here though," I mumbled as I adjusted my gray t-shirt even though it needed none.

"Well he's downstairs, you can find that out yourself. Give me the full gist once I'm back okay!" He pitched as he eased through the door.

"Have fun!" I yelled.

"You too!" He responded in the same mannerism but I chuckled. I was going to meet one of my beloved enemies, it was definitely going to be fun.

As I eased through my door and strode down the stairs, I wondered what Alfred was doing in my lair. He betrayed me and even though he knew how dangerous I was, he still had the effrontery to visit my lair.

The uproar of my fellow members jolted me back to reality.

"Everyone! Cheers to the Lord of the house, Zeus!"

I chuckled as my group of six happily clapped their glasses of beers against each other. This is what one gets when you choose to have your lair be a bar in disguise. The mornings up to the early nights were for humans while the deep nights were for us werewolves. We were called the Hunter Mercenaries, a group of skilled werewolf mercenaries led by me. Some of us here were wanted and some were new recruits to replace our fallen. Simon for starters. There he was, his young stature mingling among the big guys. I wondered why a boy this young had taken delight in a dangerous job like this. But then it occurred to me, perhaps he was like me who was forced into this path.

I was still reveling in my thoughts when my eyes fell on Alfred. There he was sitting alone at the table. The center table of Hunter's Bar. I looked around and thankfully there were no humans which gave me the chance to express my madness to a point.

"Please give this traitor the finest wine we have!" I announced sarcastically as I pulled the chair opposite his nonchalantly. Wearing a mocking smile as I sat. My members in return laughed mockingly with their predatory eyes fixated at Alfred.

"Is this how you welcome an Alpha?" Alfred groaned in a low tone. His eyes hinted at nervousness and fear.

"You're Alpha in your beloved Pack but not here,” I popped my head closer with a sinister smile. His eyes twitched while his lips stammered but no audible words came out. He knew, If I wanted, I could order my members to shred him into pieces.

"Why are you here?" I finally voiced after studying his countenance. "After what you've done, you still brought your pathetic body here. I could kill you right now in the most goriest way you can imagine, you know that." I folded my arms.

He chuckled. I frowned, I didn't want him to feel relaxed. I wanted him restless.

"Come on Zeus, my offense wasn't that treacherous."

My frown deepened as my insides burned like brimstone fire. If not for Peter, perhaps I would let my Wolf take control and shred him to pieces.

"You cheated me. You broke our deal after my strenuous efforts and you say your offense wasn't that treacherous?!" I growled and his eyes twitched again. Perhaps he saw the anger burning in my eyes.

"Give me a million reasons why I shouldn't kill you now."

"Look Zeus, I needed that money for my P-"

"I said reasons and not an explanation for your treachery, Traitor." I growled again while he gulped down his saliva.

"I have a job for you." He muttered after several deliberations. My eyes struck his and in that moment, I felt obliged to listen to his nonsense. If he came here, then this job of his was certainly dangerous.

"You have five minutes."

"Okay,” he heaved a sigh. "This deal," he pursed his lips. "No one else can do it better than you, you're the best mercenary in our supernatural world after all."

My eyes lowered to the round mahogany table as my ears entertained those words. Rather than ease me, his words brought memories of my Family. The Hunter Family.

"I'm not. There are others," I said whilst recalling my Uncle and Grandfather.

"If there were, then I wouldn't be here,” he ascertained but I knew better. My family are greater monsters than I am.

"Your time is ticking, Traitor," I muttered with a light sigh following suit.

He heaved a sigh before pulling out his phone. He stared at it for a short while and I could see another version of fear intertwined with a slight trace of greed in his eyes.

"That is the job,” he muttered as he handed me his phone displaying only one picture. A green necklace. My eyes exclaimed in surprise and tension started to sail within me. This was the same necklace I had been having in my dreams!

I quickly shook off my shocked countenance before reverting to my calm look.

"This," his voice tousled the questions brewing in my head. "Is the Queen of the Vampires necklace, Green."

My eyes sparked up again, this time I could barely hide the shock and excitement coursing through my veins. My jaws nearly dropped and I could feel my palm trembling alongside the phone. And for the first time, after so long, my Wolf, Impulse, jumped for excitement. He chose to forget our fight and rather enjoy the fact that, The ruler of Vampires, one of the most deadly beings in the supernatural world, Green, was the woman in my dreams.

"Now you see why I brought this mission to you." Alfred continued but I was barely listening. "You're the best, Zeus. You fear no one and I'm sure she doesn't scare you.

That necklace worn around her neck is worth a billion dollars. Legend has it that it is one of those ancient precious jewelries dating back to Selene, The Vampire goddess.

Now the thing is," he pursed his lips as he inched his head closer and his tone on a lower pitch.

"There's a meeting happening in the next three days. A gathering where each leader of their respective supernatural community is gathered. This time, the meeting would be held at the Lycan's Pack.

Your job is to infiltrate and steal this necklace. And this time, I won't betray you. We'll share equally. So," he paused again, Holding my gaze.

"Are you in or out?"

My lips parted, nothing but air protruded. While he was busy yapping about Green's necklace and its worth, all I could think of was my dreams. What was the connection? Why was my Wolf excited about her name?

There was only one probability answer to my burning questions.

She was my mate and whether I liked it or not, I needed to confirm.

"I'm in."
