What The Fireflies Knew Novels & Stories

asked Edmund. Kyron opened his grip and let a firefly fly and landed on Edmund's forehead. The fireflies provide a visual memory of where Keefe was locked up. “This place looks like it's inside Metal Mining. But I'm not familiar with this place. How do we get there quickly and without being caught?" asked Edmund a little nervously. "Show me that visual clue. I know Metal Mining better than anyone," said Bowen. The fireflies flew up to Bowen's forehead, showing the same visual memory.

Califf said, which everyone agreed on. I inhaled deeply as the fog suddenly appeared and the temperature dropped. From the beautiful, magical forest, the fog swallowed it into the darkness filled with uncertainly and dark creatures. The hair at the back of my neck stood as I felt someone was watching us, ready to attack and tear us apart. We continued walking through the woods. Above us were fireflies. “It’s beautiful out here if Cyrius isn’t about to end our world.” Knight looked up. “Fireflies. Some would say fireflies are a symbol of hope and guidance. It reminds us in our darkest moments, there is a light.” It was enlightening coming from Alpha Frye.

I looked up, hoping to see the light that would lead me to salvation, but not even a ray of sunlight penetrated the tarry coating. I started to choke, even though I knew I wasn't underwater at all but in a musty, cold, and dark cell somewhere in an unknown place. My body was so infected with the drug that it didn't recognize reality as reality. When I started to lose consciousness and gasp for breath, I noticed two fireflies coming towards me, whispering something along the way. I focused on their intense azure glow, which I had not noticed when these fireflies turned into eyes full of madness, venom, and violence. "Hello, old friend."

"It's only a firefly. Do you know what they are? Have you ever seen one of them?" He contemplates something inside his mind. "Fire…fly." He repeats the word, looking into my hands at the glowing bug again. "I've seen them out in the fields plenty of times, but never once did I think they were actual…creatures. My people always thought that these glowing little orbs were either a piece of the sun that broke away while it set low beneath the valleys and mountains or souls from those passed into the afterlife. But it was a taboo to catch one of

Inhaled and exhaled rapidly, needing to smell more. Moving by themselves, my legs carried me closer. Took me deeper than I had intended to go. I couldn't stop. Kept upping my pace until I was on the edge of a grove covered so thickly with leaves that only scraps of rain reached the bottom. All around me, fireflies danced. But then they realized who was in their presence. They parted around me. Buried me beneath their glow. I was unworthy of their touch. Even they knew I was a threat. Knew my wolf was so close to the edge of his seat.

I said. The word came out flat. Certain. Every piece of it clicking into place with the particular clarity of something I should have anticipated — Elara, in that compound, in Ronan's territory. The greyness of her. The weight she'd lost. He had done something to her. He had— "I need you to do something for me." Her mother's voice cut through it. Calm. Direct. I looked at her. "Fireflies," she said. "As many as you can find. There's a hollow near the east creek, behind the mill — they gather there at dusk. Bring them back in something sealed." She held my gaze. "Can you do that?"

He both asked and told me what to do. When I looked down at the river, I noticed some fireflies flying around. They multiplied in a matter of seconds, which is why there was light all over the place. Amazing! Only now have I seen so many fireflies that they seemed to be dancing in front of my eyes! "Do you think it's lovely?" Viktor had approached me with the question. As I watched the fireflies fly, I replied, "Yes." He just got up from his seat and waved at me, which I didn't notice.

The fireflies I wanted to show you last time are unique to that rainforest! Morpheus looked at the screen, his fists clenched tightly. Cold sweat broke out on his back, his body trembling uncontrollably—a physical reaction to psychological issues. He kept taking deep breaths. Fortunately, Persephone kept talking, not noticing his unusual expression. That rainforest... He had been there as a child and had seen those fireflies. He also knew the legend of the fireflies. "Morpheus, did you know?" Persephone continued. "There's a legend here in the rainforest that if two people who've loved each other for a lifetime are buried together, not long after…"

‘As I was saying’, he continued, “So, Omek observed a secret. He noticed that the goddess had something called heart of the river, it looked like a small staff. Without that staff, the goddess would turn to water and the water would overflow. He didn’t know about this issue because when he asked the goddess, the goddess lied that without the staff, she turns to human and the sacrificed victims regains their freedom. Omek thought about those in the town and a way to end the sacrifice they offer every damn year. One certain afternoon as the goddess was resting, he stole the staff and ran away. He had the freedom to go anywhere he wants but not the town. Before she could notice it, she was turn

I almost didn't see it, but it started with a small flicker at the corner of my eye, as if someone was trying to strike a matchstick. Another one flickered, and a second later they followed one by one and ascended all around and above in sync. I almost thought it was a dream, but one of the insects landed on my arm for a full minute, leaving me breathless, and then it fled, making me step further into the open. There were hundreds and thousands of fireflies lighting up the night like the stars had come down to assist the moon since it was still in the first quarter. From the way they acted in sync, it looked like something that happened every day, like it was their job.
