CHAPTER THREE

'I have to run away!'

The meeting finally ended with wolves dispersing to their various homes, as they expressed disgust at whoever the female wolf was. It was as if they had already chosen her fate, ready to see her suffer. They didn't care that she was a member of their pack or that none of this was even her fault, she was a victim in all this!

I quickly walked out of the building with dread filling me, devouring me from the inside. My entire body was tense as I headed towards home. I couldn't believe that my mate was from the Midnight Pack. All this seemed just like a cruel joke played on me by the moon goddess, but why me.

I bit my bottom lip. Why was I given this fate? Selene has a lot to answer for.

Selene is the moon goddess. She created werewolves and lycans. And she was responsible for assigning everyone Their fates and mates.

Why did I have to have so much bad luck? Why was my life always so complicated? Had I offended the moon goddess somehow and gotten cursed for it in my previous life?

I hated him, my mate. First he disappeared after mating with me, now this.

Then I thought back about the way I felt when I had mated with him last night. The heat between my legs. His rough hands roaming up and down her body, making me moan. The way his lips moved against mine, sending shivers through my entire body. My heart skipped several beats just remembering those moments.

I shook my head immediately pushing away the thoughts of my wolf as I tried to focus on my current situation. If the council members found out that I was the traitor wolf they were looking for, I was as good as dead. I needed to leave, to run away before I got killed.

I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I didn't notice the Alpha coming towards me.

"Ava," he yelled, breaking my train of thoughts and causing me to jump slightly.

I feared Alpha Lucien... Most of the pack members did. He was their leader after all and was stronger than most of them, he proved that in his conclave. Even though he acted like an ass most of the time, it didn't make him any less powerful.

He was able to tear apart a wolf's bones with a single swipe of his hand. He was also known to have many mates and concubines, and he only dreamed of making me one of his trophy collections. Only in his dreams.

I had only ever seen him during the meetings or during hunting. He usually tried many advances on me so I became one of his concubines but I always turned him down, and that always made the Alpha furious. He was obsessed with me. But at times like these he was usually very strict, demanding and downright terrifying. I never knew what he'd do to anyone who dared disobey his orders.

"Yes, Alpha," I replied, turning towards him. A fake smile plastered across my face as I tried to hide the panic I was feeling. I tried to compose myself and prayed that I wouldn't give away my true emotions.

"I heard that you were at the mating feast yesterday." He said threateningly, moving closer to me as he took in my scent.

"So you found a mate?" He asked, clearly pissed. "Tell me, is it from our pack, the surrounding packs? Or the Midnight Pack?" He stared into my eyes daring me to lie to him. It was part of his technique to sniff out the female. He had tried it with other female wolves and none had given him the answer he was looking for.

However, I didn't flinch, instead, I met his gaze firmly. I knew that he was trying to intimidate me, to get me to talk but I didn't budge. Instead I answered his question in a calm manner.

"He's an omega just like me, from the neighboring pack, the Dark Moon pack. He was very loving and of no harm to our territory. I promise you."

"Good." The Alpha nodded, giving me a little pat on the shoulder that made my skin crawl. Then turning back around, she could hear him say , “Remember to bring your mate along when the council summons for verification."

With that, he walked off, leaving me stunned as my heart started beating wildly. My mate for verification? I was done for, how the hell am I going to provide a mate when I'm summoned? My lie was going to be exposed.

I quickly rushed home, knowing that it would not be safe for me if I stayed there for one more second. My anxiety was starting to show as sweat beads broke on my forehead.

When I reached home, I immediately went straight to my bedroom and began packing my belongings. Even though I didn't have anywhere to go, it was better than being dead. It didn't take me long to get everything together and I headed downstairs ready to leave. But when I arrived there, my mother was waiting for her.

"What's wrong honey?" Mother asked with worry etched onto her face. Seeing me looking terrified as I clutched hard to my bags, she already knew what was wrong.

"Don't tell me, he was your mate?" She asked me "Was it him? The stranger? Is he a member of the Midnight Pack?"

I nodded in response, her eyes filled with tears. My mother immediately pulled me in for an embrace and hugged me tightly. I really needed that.

"Everything will be alright." She said in an attempt to reassure me, I still felt tense and terrified even after talking to my mother. Deep down, I knew everything wasn't alright. The future I thought would be peaceful and quiet suddenly turned dark and bleak. I was sucked up in a bloody mess, created by my mate.

Ava's Point Of ViewWe finally arrived in Switzerland. The city of Interlaken scenery is so lovely. I have never been anywhere apart from our pack in New Orleans, so I couldn't stop myself from gawking around like a tourist. We rode for like thirty minutes, and we arrived at Kaden's family safe house. a mansion that loomed majestically yet melancholically against the twilight sky. Despite its cracked pillars and peeling paint, there was a beauty to the place that clung stubbornly to its heritage. “Fucking hell! How long has it been? I surely didn't miss this place,” Krys muttered as we stepped inside, the echo of our footsteps swallowed by the silence. I stifled a cough, the musty scent of dust prickling my nostrils. The whole place was dusty and covered in cobwebs, years of neglect hung in the air like a shroud, a testament to the Delacourts’ absence.Kaden had spoken the truth—no one has really been here for an eternity. Ava's Point Of View I turned for the doors instantly, and left the hall, walking into the cool refreshing midnight air. I moved into the woods, stripping naked and shifting into my wolf.
