Penelope’s POV

“Next up, solo agility course for five-to-six-year-olds!”

Debbie bounced on her toes, already moving toward the starting line with the other cubs. The first events were individual showcases, allowing each pup to demonstrate their skills before the parent-child relays began.

“Good luck, baby!” I called out, watching her scurry to her position.

The moment she was out of earshot, I turned to Dominic. “Why were you at her training camp?”

His jaw tightened. “What?”

“Don’t play dumb,” I snapped. “Debbie told me you visited her training camp. What were you doing there?”

“I wasn’t—”

“She said you played games with them. That you were watching her.” I stepped closer, keeping my voice low but intense. “Were you spying on my daughter?”

Dominic’s expression shifted, resignation replacing his initial denial. “Fine. Yes, I went to the camp.”

“Why?” I demanded.

“You know exactly why,” he replied, eyes locked on mine. “I needed to know if she was mine.”

My heart hammered against my ribs

Penelope’s POVThe underground laboratory beneath Edward’s estate felt like descending into hell itself. Council investigators led me through reinforced corridors carved from solid rock, the air filled with smells that made my stomach turn.“The main ritual chamber is just ahead,” Investigator Remus said, his voice echoing off the stone walls. “I must warn you, the contents are disturbing.”Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when we entered the central room.An altar dominated the space, its black stone surface stained with dark substances that looked suspiciously like dried blood. Carved symbols covered every inch of the walls—twisted designs that seemed to writhe in the flickering light from overhead fixtures.“What is all this?” I whispered, my voice barely audible.“Ritual implements,” Remus’s assistant explained, gesturing toward tables covered with ceremonial knives, ceremonial bowls, and devices I couldn’t identify. “Specifically, rituals involving the transfer of blo

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 149: Vindication

Dominic’s POVCouncil investigators examined every aspect of our pack house. Remus and his team had taken over the main conference room, spreading documents across multiple tables while pack members provided whatever information they requested.“Alpha Dominic,” Remus called from behind a stack of vehicle logs, “we need to review your transportation records for the week leading up to the kidnapping.”I handed him the files Jarek had prepared. “Every vehicle movement is documented. Our drivers log their routes, destinations, and purposes for all official pack business.”Remus’s assistant, a stern-faced woman named Ruth, cross-referenced our records with the tire impressions found at the crime scene. “The tracks suggest three vehicles were positioned for surveillance approximately forty minutes before the attack began.”“None of our vehicles were in that area,” I said firmly. “You can verify that through GPS tracking systems installed in every pack car.”Ruth pulled up digital records on

Kelsey’s POVI paced across the bedroom floor at Darkwood Pack, my bare feet making soft sounds on the hardwood. The front door slammed downstairs, and heavy footsteps moved through the house. Dominic was back from the hospital, and from the sound of his movements, whatever had happened there wasn’t good news.I rushed to the bedroom door and pulled it open, listening to his progress through the main floor. His boots hit the stairs hard.“Dominic?” I called softly, stepping into the hallway. “How is everyone? Are Penelope and Debbie alright?”He appeared at the top of the stairs, his face grimmer than I’d ever seen it. His clothes were dirty from the forest rescue, and his gray eyes held a fury that made me step back automatically.“They’re fine,” he said curtly, not stopping as he moved toward his study.“What about the investigation? Did they find the kidnappers?” I followed him down the hall, trying to keep my voice light and concerned.“They found plenty,” Dominic replied, but he w

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 147: Testimony and Truth

Penelope’s POVThe council investigation room felt cold. I sat across from Investigator Remus, my hands folded on the metal table while he recorded my testimony about the forest attack.“Walk me through Edward’s reaction when he found you under assault,” Remus said, his stylus moving across the tablet screen.“He seemed…calm,” I said slowly, trying to recall every detail. “Too calm for someone whose fiancée was being attacked by armed men. When I shouted for him to take the children to safety, he just stood there.”“Did he appear surprised by the attack?”“No.” The realization hit me as I spoke. “He didn’t look shocked or confused. He looked like he was waiting for something to happen.”Remus made notes. “You mentioned his fighting technique was questioned by Alpha Dominic.”“Dominic said Edward missed obvious opportunities to disable his opponent. That he kept letting the man break free instead of ending the fight quickly.” I rubbed my temples. “At the time, I thought Dominic was bein

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 146: The Unraveling Truth

Dominic’s POVI watched Edward push through the hospital doors like a man running from a fire. His face had gone white when that phone rang, and the panic in his voice during that brief conversation told me everything I needed to know.“What the hell was that about?” Nathan demanded, staring at the exit where Edward had disappeared.“Pack emergency, he said,” I replied, but my voice carried skepticism. “Funny how these emergencies always happen at convenient times.”Penelope shifted Debbie higher in her arms. “He looked terrified. I’ve never seen Edward that rattled before.”“That’s because something’s wrong,” I said, turning to face both of them. “Nathan, I need you to listen to me. Really listen.”“I’m listening,” Nathan said grudgingly, though his jaw remained tight.“Edward’s behavior during that forest attack was deliberately ineffective. His fighting technique was wrong—not sloppy, not panicked, but deliberately prolonged.”“What do you mean deliberately?” he asked.I ran my hand

  • Alpha's Regret: Return of the Rejected Mate   Chapter 145: Walls Closing In

Edward’s POVI forced my face into an expression of righteous concern while my insides churned with fury. Nathan’s attack on Dominic was exactly what I needed—a perfect distraction from my own crumbling operation. Every accusation the old Alpha hurled gave me cover for the rage boiling beneath my skin.“His people had nothing to do with this,” Penelope said firmly, her voice cutting through Nathan’s tirade. The certainty in her tone made my jaw clench. She believed Dominic completely now. The woman I’d manipulated for months was slipping through my fingers like water. My phone vibrated against my chest. Another message. I gave away nothing while reading:Council raids spreading. Safe house network compromised. Benjamin trail leading directly to main operations.Every word felt like a nail in my coffin. Dr. Voss had sworn our financial connections were undetectable, but investigators were clearly following breadcrumbs straight to my door.I needed to leave immediately, but abandoning th
