"If you move your head, you will die, so you better stand still, woman," Emily said, as Luis stood next to her without saying anything. I am not sure how a wife and lover can live together.
Examinations were quickly approaching, and I had not yet paid my outstanding examination fees. As a law student, things have been difficult, but holding onto the hope of one day making my father proud has kept me going. I know things would not have progressed this far if my mother, the only person who truly provided me with everything I needed, was still alive. A brave and supportive woman who had always fueled my desire to become a top lawyer left when I did not expect her to, and now I am stuck in a mess I do not know how to get out of.
I took on a serving job for the night because I knew the money I would make would be more than enough to pay for my exam and buy a gift for my father's birthday. I had never served before but was eager to do so because I did not have any other option, but when the worst happened, all hell broke loose. I was kidnapped and awoke to confront my worst nightmare in person. I was terrified and had already entered the lion's den; we all know what the Delucas are capable of, not to mention their heir Luis, the last man anyone in Atlanta would want to mess with. When I saw him for the first time at the party, I knew it was over. I was still wondering why he had not killed me yet.
I was in a dark room for about a week, and only delicious meals were brought to me; I had no idea how I was going to survive because death was the only fate that those who messed with them faced. I heard footsteps approaching, and I realized I had failed my parents. When the door opened, Luis Deluca walked in; I still did not dare to look up, so I remained looking down. "Sign these damn papers," he said, and I looked up in alarm.
I could tell which papers I was signing just by looking at the color. ‘Marriage?’ When a drop of blood landed on the paper, I said at the back of my head, unsure whether to sign.
"Look here, young lady, it is either you sign that paper and go get tortured out there, or you stay and let me send you back to your family, OK, in a body bag," Luis said, his voice commanding and fierce.
"No—I will sign, sir," I responded, signing the paperwork.
"Please keep that lame excuse to yourself; it must have been your plan all along to take my—”
"Emily, you, of all people, should know that we do not kill our assets," Luis responded to the woman.
“Seriously, you're taking her as a wife?”
"Come on, you know that is not what I want her to be. But since she is valuable I am sure Enrico will love this news when it reaches him," he said, and I could not believe it.
I looked up and was about to say something when I realized I could not because of the blood on his face, which appeared to be the result of a violent fight. "Hello, little Miss, I hope you are ready for what is coming your way; nobody except me rules the devil's heart, so you might as well cooperate or have your days cut short as a result of messing with me," Emily said, roughly freeing my chin.
“Oh," I said softly, as Emily had not yet left my room. I would never have heard of her, but the way Luis spoke to her suggested they had a deeper connection. I am not even sure how I became an asset to Luis. "I will send the maids to bring you some clothes, but do not be overconfident because Luis is mine," Emily said before walking out.
I freed my hands and wondered, if she could hear herself, what would I want to do with a murderer like him anyway? When I get out of this mess, she will undoubtedly be the first person I get locked up. I was deep in thought when a woman dressed in white approached me and bowed. ‘Goodness, what is happening here?’ I questioned myself before they both greeted me and invited me to follow them to my room.
I was going to ask them a lot of questions, but I could not because I needed to process everything that was happening. How on earth did I get a room in the Deluca mansion? "Madam, this is your room. Please let us know if you want us to make any changes," one of the women said, placing some clothes on the bed.
“No, it's OK you may leave," I said.
They left, and I took a deep breath before deciding how I was going to get myself out of this mess. I had not taken a shower in days, so I went for one right away, and it was extremely comforting. I got out and went to dress up when I noticed Luis sitting on the bed. "Impressive; I did not know lawyers could look this good," he said, looking me over from head to toe.
“Why did you marry me?" I asked in a serious tone.
"Ms. Johnson, please look around before saying anything you might regret later, okay," he warned.
“Look Mr.Deluca I'd advise you to let me go before —"
"Before what? Hmm, I admire your courage but keep in mind that this is not a courtroom. OK, get ready. Your father is waiting for you downstairs, and I believe you do not want him to find out about our marriage being forced, given his health," he said as he walked out.
"What!” I exclaimed shocked that my Dad was here.
CHAPTER 71Luis We had completed our meal and were about to leave when Hope invited us to join her shopping trip. I expected Ariella to disagree, but she appeared more delighted than me. Since the mall was not far away, David drove us there, where we met Hope, who appeared delighted to see us."Congratulations, Mommy. I got you this," she added, wrapping a bright bracelet around Ariella's hand."Wow, this is lovely, sweet. Where did you acquire it?" Ariella responded by lowering her body to meet Hope's height.“From a secret place," Hope responded."Ladies, please, I am feeling jealous," I said, hoping to get their attention."Daddy, please save us the trouble; I need to take Mommy away," Hope answered."OK, I guess I'll get David to freeze all your accounts, madam,” I smiled.“Now, you dare not, if you want your David to survive," Hope whispered, pulling Ariella away as I trailed them behind like a guard.“Daddy please hurry," Hope said while I was just lost looking at Ariella's h
CHAPTER 70Ariella I stepped out of court feeling overjoyed that I had won my second lawsuit. Everyone congratulated me since it was one of the most difficult cases ever solved in Atlanta. Reporters swarmed to ask me questions, and I replied all I could with a bright grin on my face, but it still seemed like I had not accomplished enough."Ariellal," Emma called out from behind me, and I swiftly turned to hug her."I thought you traveled," I replied as I slipped into her arms."Come on, I was not going to miss witnessing you bring justice," she said, smiling."That means a lot to me, girl." “Guess who else came?" she asked and I didn't remember anyone."Please tell me I do not want to die wondering," I responded."Look behind you," she urged, and I turned around to encounter the stares of my uncle and aunt.“You came," I said in an emotional tone."Yes, I had to be here princess, and you know how proud I am of you," Uncle Jeremiah said.I rushed to hug him. I looked up at my aunt,
CHAPTER 69Enrico “What?!" I exclaimed after talking to Emily on the phone.“Baby is everything OK?" Monica asked.“Yes, just get my coffee," I responded, trying to get rid of her.Lucia is such a shameless woman. I am surprised she had the confidence to confront Luis after what she had done to him because I wouldn't.I'm surprised he gave her over to the police, which is strange because death is all he would have offered her. I surely am missing something. My issue, however, is that she nearly murdered Ariella, which makes me want to blow her brains out in those jail cells. I murdered that woman and wouldn't watch her be killed in the same manner, especially now that she is bonding with me."I followed you to the graveyard the other day," Monica remarked, giving me my coffee.“What?" I responded."I simply wanted to make sure you were okay, but…I ended up seeing how calm you were around her —Ariella,” Monica said, looking at me with teary eyes."Monica, please, I do not think this i
CHAPTER 68Luis It has been hours and Ariella has not returned from her parents' house with Hope. "Boss, we have an invitation to a black rose party," David remarked, handing me the card."We will deal with it later; right now, we need to go retrieve my wife," I said, getting into the car.David began, and we drove for an hour before arriving at Ariella's parents' home. We parked and went inside the home when we saw Ariella and Hope being led out."Daddy,” Hope said the moment she saw me and ran to get a hug."Hey baby how are you?" I asked her."I am well; Aunt Klara baked me biscuits while Mother and Grandpa watched cartoons with me," Hope said excitedly.I could tell she was having a good time and thanked Klara and her father before driving Ariella and Hope to the vehicle.“Wait," I said to Ariella before she got in.“Yes," she turned.“I…If you do not want to go back home right now, I could allow you to spend time with your family.”"It is fine, we need to start moving before it
CHAPTER 67Ariella I was still shocked that Luis defended me from Lucia. I am not sure why I felt compelled to go see whether Lucia was in his room after he left mine. To my amazement, they were bickering, and Luis was defending me like the male protagonist in a romantic film. Before Luis could come out, I dashed back to my room and locked myself from the inside. I had shivers simply thinking about how Luis was protecting me. It's like I was about to fly. Did I mean so much to him?I told myself to calm down and went to bed to take a nap, but I could not fall asleep. Every time I opened my eyes, all I could see was Luis, and when I closed them, it got even worse. The next morning I woke and went to get ready for breakfast. Everyone seemed to have been at the table except Luis. I greeted them and was ready to pull out my chair when Luis did it instead.“Morning beautiful," he said and then smiled at me."No, we are eating breakfast; I believe you should take yours upstairs," Annie t
CHAPTER 66Luis I was about to lose my head during supper, but Hope was present. Ariella was also present and I couldn't because I am attempting to demonstrate to her that I have changed. But Lucia is just here to awaken my beast. We have not spoken in ten years, since I discovered she was having an affair with my closest friend without my knowledge.I loved how she made me feel like I was the only man in her life, even though there was another. I was unhappy when I found out, but there was nothing I could do because she was already pregnant with his kid.I made my way to my room and noticed that the lights were turned off, which I did not leave like that, so I switched them on but could not believe what I saw.“What are you doing here?" I asked Lucia who was smiling at me from the couch."Nothing, just checking on the ruthless beast that replaced me with a low life, honestly now Luis," she said.I understood precisely what she was trying to do, but I am not the same man who was ob
