RACHEL

I wrapped the large brown towel around my body and stepped out of the bathroom. Just then, the door to the room opened, and Brooke stepped in. She made her way to her bed, plopping on it, before falling back.

“Tired as fuck,” she whispered, rolling around. Then she sat up immediately, her eyes flickering to mine. “You didn't come to the den last night.”

I shrugged, wanting to ignore her. We weren't friends. She had almost killed me on my first day here, and she had threatened me too. I saw no reason to be overly friendly with her and have such a discussion until she spoke again.

“Last night was awesome. Has to be the best night of my life. I even scored a date!” She squealed, genuine excitement shining in her eyes.

I frowned in confusion. How had she been able to leave the dorm when there was a curfew set in place? I remembered Clara mentioning that it was in all houses, and Ivy had always been a rule breaker. That meant Brooke had snuck out too, like the others who must have a

RACHELMy eyes opened slowly as I came to. The first thing I saw was the ceiling. It was blurry. I groaned, turning my head sideways, blinking to clear the haze in my vision, at the same time, attempting to sit up.“Where am I?” I croaked out. My voice was rough, and my throat was dry; it felt like I had feasted on sand the night before. But that was little compared to the pain in my gut, like I had been punched repeatedly, and they only let me go when they realized I was unconscious.“You're awake!”I winced, slapping a hand over my ears to block out the scream, before looking at my bedside to see two pairs of eyes with different hues looking back at me. At first, I couldn't make out their features clearly, but when my vision immediately returned, I saw Clara and Ruby.“What happened?” I asked them, my mind reeling as I tried to think back to the reason I was there.“You don't remember?” Clara asked. She sat on the small space on my bed, clasping one of my hands in hers. Her hand was

JAXONGrace's arms wrapped around me tightly in a suffocating hug, but rather than be irritated as I might have been or try to pull her hand away, I let her be. She trembled, and I heard her sniffle. She was crying. No doubt.Grace was cheerful most of the time, and you'd barely see her get mad, but it was one of the times she'd allow herself to be vulnerable. I sighed, looking in the direction of the opened window in the small room. It was a combined room and kitchen. Just enough space for her to live in. She'd be given a bigger space, but Grace had declined, saying she had no use for it.I listened as she sobbed quietly. Her voice was the only thing you'd hear in the otherwise quiet room. When the tears gradually subsided, I murmured, “Since when?”“Last week,” she said in a small voice, barely audible. I had to strain my ears to be able to hear her.“You didn't tell me anything,” I answered, frowning as I looked down at her; just at the same time, she looked up at me with a stained

JAXON“Welcome, Professor Jaxon,” Doctor Luther said as he extended his hand to me. I shook it. He was the head of the Academy's medical department. A middle-aged man with years of experience. I learned that he was one of the first students to graduate from here as well and had decided to return after years of studying medicine abroad. He adjusted the glass on the bridge of his nose with his free hand, his piercing black eyes on mine.“Thank you, doctor Luther,” I murmured, letting his hand go before sitting on the chair he pointed to.I had left the party hall after Noah was bound. Headmaster Augustus had ordered for him to be taken to the cell to cool off with instructions to have him chained down again because it seemed the chains he had around him weren't strong enough.I had come to the hospital, where I was told Ivy had been taken, as they tried to devise a plan for her, but they couldn't. As much as I wanted to stay away from her and watch everything that was happening from afa

JAXON“Don't you dare lay a hand on my mate. Get away from her!”Mate?!I sucked in a deep breath, staring at him with wide eyes. It felt like I had been punched in the gut. I swallowed, taking a step back as Noah tossed his head back, growling in pain, Ivy still in his arms like a prized possession he couldn't let go of.“What is going on?” Grace whispered, coming up behind me.I couldn't precisely say what was happening because I had no idea myself. I knew about second-chance mates because I had gotten one, which was Ivy. However, that should happen if you lost one or both of you rejected each other. Most of the time, it was even impossible to find someone else. I had seen people in similar situations, and they remained single all their lives. It wasn't because they chose to be single, but because they were never given a chance to mate again. As cruel as that may sound, it was that way in the werewolf world.Yet, never for once had I heard of this happening. Ivy hadn't entirely reje

JAXON“The last thing I ever thought you'd announce is us getting married. I mean, we've been together for a long time, and you never brought that up. When I do, you seem to get mad at me or even find a way to evade it. What changed?” Grace questioned as she stepped into the office after me.She walked up to me as I slipped out of my jacket, taking it from me. I watched as she hung it on the coat rack before coming to stand in front of the desk.“I am genuinely curious, although I am excited,” she beamed, her eyes twinkling. I guessed I had done the right thing. And even though I didn't like Grace in the way she might like me, I love it when she smiles. It gave me a sense of accomplishment.I had rejected Ivy and even made an announcement I had thought was impossible, believing that would make me stop thinking about her. I had thought it would ease my pain and give her a sense of protection. Still, why did I feel this overwhelming pain? The one that had intensified since we stepped in

RACHELI returned to the hall with Noah. After resting for a brief moment, I felt fine again, and there was nothing much to do in the room. Clara and Ruby left as they didn't see me having any health challenge, and staying with Noah in the awkward silence was weird.“Are you sure it's okay to be here? Dancing isn't really a big deal to me if that's what you're worried about. In fact, I hate it.” Noah murmured as he held my waist while we swayed to the slow music playing. How could he hate dancing yet be so good at it? I should be the one hating because I was very awful, even in the waltz that looked the easiest.I looked up at him in time to see the worry that crossed his face. I sent him a little smile before resting my head on his shoulder. “I'm fine.”It was the truth. Even though I was still trying to understand what had happened earlier, I didn't think it had anything to do with dancing.Noah said nothing. I guessed he believed me. I find it cute that he was worried about my well
