Kayden's POV
“The sentinels will take over from here, Reagan. This would be our last shift for tonight.”
Reagan my closest companion nodded in agreement to what I had just said. Then we left for the path that led to the small pub at the end of the woods towards the path that led to the city.
We took a much more secluded path out of the Crescent Moon Pack to avoid being seen by the others. Shifting to fur, we navigated the woods on sync, stopping to change only when we saw the pub in sight. Carrying the duffle bags that had our clothes between our jaws, we let it down, shifting back to skin and putting out clothes on.
Pulling the glass doors open, we walked into the pub and several wary glances was sent in our direction. Some shifters, others human. I was already used to the scrutiny of others and didn't give two fucks if they thought I wasn't where I had to be.
Leaving my pack behind to stick to the humiliation I got from the Crescent Moon Pack was something I had to do for the sake of my people.
From where I stood, I could already see Fenris with a warm smile on his face, signaling Reagan to part ways with me for now. He didn't bother to ask questions, mingling with the crowd when he ordered a mug of beer, already leading a woman to the far end of the room.
“Kayden,” Fenris bowed when he rushed to his feet while I motioned my hands to dismiss his public display of respect.
“Fenris, please, sit.”
“Yes, Alpha.”
I rolled my eyes at him, knowing fully well that no matter how I tried to make him drop his title for me, he wouldn't. Here I was, struggling to keep my identity a secret but he was going to blow it all up at any minute if he kept up that way.
“I came as fast as I could when I got your message.”
A small hum rumbled through my chest when I recalled the events that had led to calling him over on such short notice. But I was too enraged to wait till our next meeting date to speak with him. Long story short,
“I have found my mate.”
His eyes widened in bewilderment, “That is such a delightful news! The pack would be so excited to hear this,”
Delightful indeed! There was nothing delightful about having Leia as mate. To her, I was merely an underdog unworthy of her time and affection, I wondered if the Moon goddess got the mating pair right.
“Save your excitements, she hates me. Turns out my mate is the next alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack and she hates me. At the winter solstice, she told everyone who cared to listen how much of a pain in the arse I was to her.”
He suddenly burst into a bout of laughter, finding my misery amusing. He leaned forward, slapping his shoulders lightly.
“I doubt any she-wolf would be able to resist having you as their mate but okay, she's a feisty one then.”
I signaled the bartender to order a glass of beer, chugging down the contents in on large gulps. Leia was unlike any she-wolf I had ever seen; so ambitious, ruthless and stubborn.
“Not just feisty. She's one scheming little brat. Had her parents switch me and Kieran for each other. She's going to take her sister's mate instead and make me take her sister in exchange.
“What?!” he sputtered, nearly choking on the frothy contents in his glass. “That is unheard of! Who trades mates like they're some disposable stuff?!”
Well, apparently, Leia did. She'd found me pretty annoying since the moment we had found our connection, she hated me and I also did not take very likely to her behavior. She was the alpha and she did her best at letting everyone know she was. Not stopping at taking what belonged to others by whatever means possible, I wondered what trick she used in getting Kieran from Renna.
“She doesn't care about a mate bond and whatnots. If it doesn't favor her cause, then it's disposable.”
“But why would they throw a mere maid at you? What are you supposed to do with her? Have her clean her way into your heart?”
My wolf and I did not take very lightly to his words because instantly, he had lurched into my eyes and they glowed crimson with flecks of ember in them. Growls vibrated through my chest when my aura surged through me, radiating through the air and hitting Fenris. He squirmed from the excruciating pain.
“Do not speak of Renna that way. She's more than a maid, she's my savior and I owe her my life.”
He groaned, tilting his neck to show submission as he huffed. “Alright, alright! I'm.... I'm sorry!”
I scowled, muttering a scoff when I withdrew my alpha aura he let out a sigh of relief, tilting his head back to catch his breath.
“I apologize for my words. I do not know you feel an attachment to the maid.”
“It is fine. But do not speak of her that way anymore.”
He nodded, raising his hands up in submission. He couldn't understand why I felt so worked up from his way of addressing Renna, and honestly, I had no idea why I suddenly felt the need to protect her.
“You called her your savior. How did she save you?” he wore a puzzled look on his face and he stared at me expectantly while I tried to work out an explanation.
“A week ago, I got into trouble with the wolf I worked under. My identity as the alpha almost got revealed so I had to take the punishment. She gave me her blood to heal me in her weakened state without asking for anything in return. So, I owe her my life.”
This time, I could see understanding shrouding his countenance when he realized my words. He sighed, raking his fingers through his hair,
“Okay. I understand that she did some good but she's still Donovan's child. There is no good in the Crimson Moon Pack, all that remains is spite and evil. Do not forget why you have to endure this humiliation and suffering in the first place.
I nodded, my expression shifted when I suddenly recalled the reason why I had been here, “I won't forget. I made an oath and I'll stick to it. But in the mean time, did you bring what I asked you to?”
He nodded, dipping his hands into his back pocket to pull out a small gourd, “Why exactly do you need this and who is it for?”
“Do not burden yourself with that.” I snatched it from him, tucking it safely into my pocket as fast as I could.
He shrugged raising his hand nonchalantly, “Fine, but
he careful. You know how to use that, don't you?”
Now it was my turn to nod.
Kayden’s POVMy Little Wolf had fallen asleep, right after I'd carried her into the shower stall. After she’d showered, she changed into another flimsy nighties , falling asleep almost immediately.I couldn't tell what time it was, but she stared. Renna let out a gasp when her eyes fluttered open. I didn't want her body away from mine yet, and I didn't want to alert her by waking up. So I pulled her closer towards me.She tried to wiggle free from my hold and I let her. Watching as she walked over to the bathroom, brushing and getting ready for the morning. I heard her coming back in, and pretended to be asleep. I couldn't tell if last night was a mistake, or if she wanted to remember what I'd made her feel. She creeped back in too, trying to quietly go back into bed and pretend she'd been sleeping too but she laid facing me to get a good look at my face, then I spoke,"Do you like what you see?""Huh?" She muttered. Startled by my question."You don't need to pretend to be asleep, L
Kayden’s POVMy Sentinels had informed me of Amari’s decisions to take Renna out to the club. I had no idea why Amari kept flouting my orders. Fuck. The mere thoughts of my female in the midst of a thousand men staring t her while she was already showing hints of being in heat only infuriated me the more.My wolf wwnted nothing more than to rip their fucking heads off, but it took every ounce of control in me to hold him back. Not when we couldn’t go around killing random males until we were sure they’d stared at her. Cancelling my meeting with Raine, I made my way to the club. Taking Renna out as fast as I could. For some reason, Rowan was awfully quiet as we made our way back home. Right after I'd asked her if she was willing to choose me, or her family. Once we got back to the pack, she followed behind me, back to our room. She took a shower, changed into some flimsy silk nighties, and fidgeted where she stood.I arched a brow, scooting over to a side when I undid the knots of the
Renna’s POVKayden led me out of the club to where a Cadillac escalade was parked outside. The ride was quite fancy but I wondered why we were leaving without the others. Hurriedly opening the door for me before turning over to the other side, while hopped in too but I refuse to go with him that easily.I’d nearly died from anticipation, at the mere gesture of him holding my hands and pulling me out of the club but I was not ready to leave without an explanation. Settling himself in the car, he wore a surprisingly calm expression on his face when he pulled out his phone and tapped at it. "Were are we going to?" I asked. "Back home," he replied candidly. So, he'd take me back home without Amari?! She came here for me! Was I just supposed to abandon her and leave without informing her?! No. I wasn't going to leave without her.He growled out a command, “Get in the car, Renna.""I'm not leaving without Amari,” I responded defiantly but he stepped out of the car, picking me off the flo
Renna’s POVA gasp parted my lips and my eyes fluttered open when a knock echoed outside the room. I turned on my back, stretching like a cat.I’d let Kayden kiss me!Hell, I let him touch me, and I couldn’t deny that I loved every bit of it. Anger and annoyance surged through me as a reminder of the hate that I should have had for him, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t hate Kayden. Not when he was my mate, and the mate bond was playing tricks on me. I pressed my thighs together when my wolf preened her neck, her voice filling my mind.“Is that the Alpha?!”I groaned, “I don’t know if it’s the Alpha or not.”I climbed down the bed, shrugging the door open to meet an excited Amari outside the door. She squealed happily as she held on to bag. “Luna,” she waved.“Amari,” I muttered“I hope you’ve been doing good?” She asked. “I know it’s hard for you. Being in the Silverpack, restrained and all. To be honest, I’m sure the Alpha knows that too.”Silverpack? So that was the pack
Kayden's POVMy uncle stared at me with a nonchalant look on his face. It probably didn't matter to him. how I'd get Raine to the summit. As uh as I wanted nothing to do with him and the Council, I still couldn't ignore the fact that allying myself with him could also come at an advantage. He chugged down the contents in his flask, his gaze shifting to his wolf's when he lifted to his feet, adjusting the buttons on his suit when he spoke."I don't fucking care how you do it, son. Have her at the Summit, and I might just put in good words for you at the Council. I know you're hot-headed, but t the same time, you also know how things work around here. You might have refused my help years ago, and had gotten yourself into this mess, but I'm certain that you know when to yield, and accept help.""If I agree to this," I began, letting out a sigh when i tilted my head to a side to properly look at him from where he stood. "I do this because I want to. Not because you're trying to make me. T
Kayden’s POVMagnus stared at me like I was out of my fucking mind. But it didn’t matter if he thought I was crazy or not. Renna was mine, and there was no way in hell I was ever going to let her go back there.“Are you sure about this, son?” He asked with an horrified look on his face as he asked. I couldn’t tell which he found more shocking; the fact that I’d taken Renna away from her pack, or the fact that I was ready to wager my life to keep her as mine.“I’m darned sure, uncle.” I met his glare with a growl, “You didn’t think I’d have her with me if she meant nothing to me, did you? Yes, I crave to make Donovan suffer, but she has nothing to do with that, neither do I intend to use her to get back at him.” “You do know that you’re about to start a war. Don’t you?” He grimaced. “The Crimson Moon pack might be small, but they’ve got allies up North. How would you protect your pack if he brings this to the Council? or decides to get support from them? Did you ever think that you’d
