Teya's POV

After class wrapped up, I decided to head to the library, though, to be honest, I wasn’t entirely sure what I was hoping to find there. My mind kept circling back to that moment in the classroom when our professor announced we’d be paired up for the project.

When he called my name and then his, I should’ve had the presence of mind to raise my hand and ask to be switched to someone else. I could have saved myself from all the impending awkwardness. But, of course, I didn’t speak up. Now, here I was, walking right into the lion’s den of social discomfort.

As I pushed open the heavy library door, I was greeted by the familiar, calming stillness that always enveloped the place. It was just quiet enough to hear the gentle hum of the fluorescent lights overhead and the soft, muffled rustle of pages turning from students scattered across the various nooks and crannies of the room.

A few of my fellow classmates were huddled at desks, immersed in their studies, each one seemingly

  • The Human mate: Marked for vengeance.    Chapter 51

Teya's POV It was Lucien. His voice broke through the noise like a gunshot, sharp and commanding. At that moment, the world seemed to halt around us. The officer froze mid-step, caught off guard by Lucien's unexpected intervention.Lucien strode forward with a confidence that demanded attention—it was like a magnet pulling everyone’s gaze toward him. He had this powerful build with broad shoulders that gave him an imposing stature, and his jaw was set so tightly, you could almost think he was ready to snap if someone crossed him. Those eyes of his? They flickered with a stormy intensity, as if a whirlwind of emotions was raging just beneath the surface, waiting to explode at any moment. At that moment, he didn’t resemble a typical student who was just walking through campus with a backpack slung over one shoulder. No, Lucien exuded an aura of raw power, the kind that made you feel like there was a force of nature right in front of you. He embodied authority, as if the very air around

  • The Human mate: Marked for vengeance.    Chapter 50

TEYA’S POVFor one unbelievably breathless second, it hit me like a ton of bricks—I seriously thought this nightmare was finally coming to an end. The wailing sirens, those strobe-like flashing lights that danced around in a chaotic rhythm, and the way Pearl’s smile flickered uncertainty—it all had to mean one thing: they were here for her. For justice. At long last, it felt like we might actually have a shot at it.I could hardly breathe as an overwhelming wave of relief crashed over me, and my knees started to buckle beneath me. It was as if all the tension I’d been holding onto—like a tight coil ready to snap—now finally had a release. They must have seen the footage. Someone, somewhere, must have cared enough to take notice.Maybe that committee had finally taken it seriously and escalated the situation. Or perhaps Lucien had pulled some strings and made a call that made all the difference. Whatever the reason, it felt like a glimmer of hope had broken through the clouds.I stumbl

  • The Human mate: Marked for vengeance.    Chapter 49

TEYA’S POVAs the door swings shut behind me with a resounding thud, it feels like the entire weight of the universe has come crashing down on my chest, leaving me gasping for breath. I can't shake the sensation that the air has been sucked right out of the room, replaced by this heavy, suffocating silence that presses down like a lead blanket. The committee didn’t buy my story – not even for a second. They looked right at me, taking in the bruises marrying my skin, my unsteady hands, and the raw truth I held out like a desperate offering. Yet, somehow, it wasn’t enough. Not for them, and certainly not for me. I can’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t enough for them—like I fell short in every way that mattered. Through the haze of my discontent, I spot Lucien leaning casually against the wall just outside, as if he has been waiting for me all along. The moment our eyes lock, I can feel the tension in the air shift. His head whips up, and I can practically see the worry flood his featu

  • The Human mate: Marked for vengeance.    Chapter 48

TEYA'S POV The first thing I feel is pain. Not sharp, not sudden—just this dull, heavy throb, like every inch of me is pulsing with it. My skin hurts. My bones ache. Even breathing feels like dragging glass through my chest. My eyes flutter open, slow and sticky. Above me—white. Too white. A ceiling, blank and sterile, lit up by cold fluorescent lights that buzz quietly, like a swarm of tiny, angry insects. It smells clean. Too clean. Antiseptic sharpness in the air, mixed with something colder, like plastic and metal and quiet fear. A hospital. I’m in a hospital. And for a second, I don’t move. Don’t blink. Just let the ache settle around me like a second skin. Because if I shift, if I turn my head, I’ll know exactly how bad it is. For a second—just a breath—I don’t know where I am. Then it all hits. Like lightning straight to the chest. Pearl. Her hands. The hits. The floor. The blood. The light. The red light. The camera. My eyes snap open wide now, panic

  • The Human mate: Marked for vengeance.    Chapter 47

TEYA'S POVMy steps feel lighter than they should. Weird, right? Walking home usually drags me down—like my legs have bricks tied to them, like every step is a fight just to keep going. But tonight? It’s like I’m floating or something. Like there’s something underneath me pushing me forward instead of holding me back. The usual dread? Gone. No tightness squeezing my chest, no that sinking feeling that twists my stomach. None of that heavy weight pressing down. It’s almost like for once, I’m breathing easy. Lucien’s still on my mind. I can’t get him out. His laugh, all crooked and warm, the kind that makes your whole body want to smile. The way his eyes crinkle when he smiles like he’s hiding some joke just for me, or maybe for no one at all. The quiet moments in class where we didn’t have to say anything and it didn’t feel awkward, it felt… comfortable. And that note.I pulled it out from my back pocket a hundred times today, fingers tracing over the words like I’m trying to ma

  • The Human mate: Marked for vengeance.    Chapter 46

Teya’s PovAs the class wrapped up, I realized something pretty remarkable: my head actually felt clear for once. Usually, I’d find myself dragging my bag along the floor with a heavy sigh, feeling like a total ghost just shuffling my way through the hallways. But today? Totally different vibe! I strolled alongside Lucien, and honestly, I was really tuned in when he was chatting away. For a change, he didn’t seem to be holding back or keeping that usual distance between us, which felt refreshing. At first, our conversation was a bit quiet and subdued. We just walked side by side, moving toward the next hallway, and it felt like we were trapped in this bubble where everything that was usually unsaid between us was suddenly dialed up a notch. It wasn’t awkward, though; it was more like a comforting hum in the background, just part of the whole vibe.We came to a stop by the vending machine that sat in the bustling commons area, where the chatter and laughter of other students created a
