Fated to My Best Friend and The Alpha

Fated to My Best Friend and The Alpha

Camille Rivers has always believed she knows exactly where she belongs. She has a loving family, a place within the Silverpine Pack, and Drevin Brooks—her childhood best friend and the one person who has always felt like home. But everything changes when Camille turns eighteen and her wolf, Nyx, finally awakens. Suddenly, familiar people feel different. Old relationships begin to fracture. And the future Camille imagined for herself becomes tangled with Logan Kingsley—the powerful, distant future Alpha who has never seemed particularly interested in her at all. As emotions intensify and secrets begin to surface, Camille finds herself caught between two men who have never been able to stand each other and a connection none of them fully understand. But something about Camille's awakening is different. Something ancient. Something that should not be possible. And the harder they fight against it, the more impossible it becomes to ignore. Because fate may have chosen a path for Camille. But Camille is beginning to realize she doesn't have to follow it.

Chapter: Chapter Ten
I wake up eighteen. For a few seconds, nothing feels different. My room is still dark.My blanket is twisted around one leg. There’s a crack in the ceiling above my bed that Dad has promised to fix for almost a year.I lie perfectly still and wait. For what, I don’t know.A voice.A surge of power. Some mystical announcement from the universe that I’m officially old enough for my body to tear itself apart and become a wolf.Nothing happens. Then my phone vibrates beside me.Mom.Happy birthday, baby. Come downstairs.I smile. There are messages from Callum.Dad.Tessa.June.Half a dozen people from the pack.I scroll farther. No Drevin. The smile fades before I can stop it.It’s early. That means nothing. He promised.I set the phone down.Today is too important to spend waiting on someone else.I repeat that to myself while I get dressed. And again while I brush my teeth. And once more when I check my phone before going downstairs.Still nothing.Mom cries over pancakes. Not dramati

Chapter: Chapter Nine
Friday afternoon, the café feels louder than usual. The grinder screams every few minutes. Milk steams. Cups knock against the counter. The bell over the door never seems to stop ringing.Normally, I like the noise.Today every sound seems to land directly behind my eyes.Three different people ask whether I’m excited for Tuesday. One asks if I’ve picked out clothes for after my shift.Another tells me her daughter threw up before hers.Mr. Hansen spends five full minutes explaining how his first transformation dislocated his shoulder before June notices my face and shoos him away.Apparently this is the week everyone decides first-shift horror stories are appropriate conversation.By the end of my shift, I’m considering becoming human out of spite. My phone buzzes while I’m wiping down the pastry case.Drevin.For one embarrassing second, everything inside me lifts.Got stuff going on this weekend. Don’t think I’ll be around much.I read it twice. Then once more. There’s nothing wron

Chapter: Chapter Eight
I sleep terribly. Not because Drevin left.Obviously.That would be pathetic.I sleep terribly because the house is too warm, my pillow is uncomfortable, and apparently someone in the universe decided three in the morning was a fantastic time for my brain to replay every word Drevin said. You didn’t do anything wrong. That should make me feel better. It doesn’t.By six-thirty, I give up on sleep entirely. The house is quiet when I go downstairs.Too quiet.Mom and Dad are still asleep. The kitchen lights are off.And Callum is sitting on the back porch with a mug of coffee, staring into the trees.I stop at the sliding door.“You’re awake.”He looks over his shoulder.“So are you.”“I asked first.”“No, you made an observation.”I open the door.Cold morning air hits my bare legs.I immediately regret wearing shorts.Callum looks down at them.“Great planning.”“Shut up.”I step outside anyway and curl into the chair beside him.He holds out his mug.I take it.“Hey.”“That’s mine.”“

Chapter: Chapter Seven
Drevin doesn’t come to dinner. He doesn’t text me either.By ten that night, I tell myself I don’t care.By eleven, I’ve checked my phone twelve times. At eleven-thirty, I throw it onto my nightstand and go to sleep angry. The next morning, there’s a message waiting for me.Sorry about last night. Got busy. That’s it.No explanation. No stupid meme.No Did your mom save me leftovers?Just four words.I stare at them until the screen goes dark.Six days until my birthday. And somehow six days feels like a very long time.Thursday nights belong to us.They have since I was fourteen and Drevin declared that my taste in movies was a personal offense he was morally obligated to correct. The rules are simple. One of us picks the movie. The other complains. We order too much food.Drevin eats most of mine. And neither of us is allowed to cancel unless someone is bleeding, dying, or actively being chased by rogues. We added the third one after an unfortunate camping trip when we were sixteen.

Chapter: Chapter Six
Felicity is still standing beside Drevin’s truck when my shift ends.I know because I check.Several times.Fine.Six.By the time I untie my apron, her friends are gone, but Felicity hasn’t moved. She’s leaning against the passenger door with her mostly empty cold brew while Drevin stands in front of her. They’re talking. That’s all.Two people talking.Completely normal.Except Felicity keeps touching him.His arm when she laughs. His shoulder when she says something I can’t hear.Once, the center of his chest.Drevin doesn’t move away.Which shouldn’t bother me.It does.“Are you planning to sleep here?”Tessa asks.I tear my eyes from the window.“What?”“You’ve been off for five minutes.”“I’m leaving.”“Sure.”She looks outside. Then at me.“You want me to accidentally spill something on her?”Despite myself, I laugh.“No.”“I could make it look convincing.”“You’re terrible.”“I’m loyal.”I grab my bag.“I can handle Felicity.”Tessa’s expression softens.“I know.”The answer s

Chapter: Chapter Five
Drevin never explains why he pulled away from me.He stays for dinner. He jokes with Callum.Argues with Dad about whether his truck needs new brake pads.Steals three roasted potatoes off my plate. And acts so completely normal that by the time he leaves, I almost convince myself the moment in the kitchen didn’t happen.Almost.But I keep remembering how fast he jerked away from me.Like touching me was something he had to stop himself from doing.By the next afternoon, I’m still thinking about it.Which is why I accidentally pour oat milk into a regular latte.“Camille.”I look down. Then at the carton in my hand.“Damn it.”Tessa leans against the counter beside me.“That’s twice today.”“I’m distracted.”“No kidding.”I dump the drink into the sink and start over.Silverpine Café is busy enough that I should be able to stop thinking.Usually, work is good for that. There’s always something to do.Espresso shots to pull.Tables to wipe.Orders to remember.June calling from the kit
