I awoke to the sound of my alarm going off as usual. Unfortunately, I didn’t get much sleep last night. The voice kept waking me up every so often, asking me to go back to the Forrest. As I began my morning routine, the voice slowly became louder. My attempts to ignore it were becoming difficult. I made up my mind that at the end of the day, I would return to the falls and alleviate this voice’s desires.The rest of the day went about as normal as one could imagine. The door was silent, swinging open to reveal the dark staircase. I was careful with every step. Clutching my ribs, I took my time descending the stairs, making sure each step made no sound. As I passed the last step, I let out a small sigh of relief. Now, if I could make it back up to my room, I would be home free. I went into the kitchen, leaving the light off, and checked the cabinets. We kept a lot of food for Zac here since he was a teenage werewolf. If we didn’t stock up at least twice a week, we would be out of food. The cabinets were beautiful. Full of snacks and any junk food your heart could want. I had to choose carefully what to get and bring with me. I avoided the unopened boxes and bags as they would attract more attention. I eyed the protein and cereal bars on the last shelf. My eyes fluttered open sometime later. I felt sticky and a little wet. My body was glued in place, unable to move. My head throbbed as I remembered what had happened before I was knocked unconscious. Suddenly, I noticed the pain in my ribs. I groaned softly and attempted to make my body lift off the floor. The partially dried blood was stuck to my face, causing a sloppy, sickly sound as I peeled away from the floor beneath me. The room was spinning so fast I thought I might puke from the motion. Soon, my vision went back to normal, and the roller coaster in my stomach calmed. I moved myself to my feet, trying to be gentle on my ribs. As I stood, I felt as if someone had lit a fire inside the right side of my chest just below my breast. The moon was void tonight. I had no idea how long I had been asleep, but I could tell it was late. My body was stiff and frozen as I moved back to my feet. I tried to be quick because I knew being late meant trouble, but I couldn’t get myself to move much.
