Virginia's POV

I adjust the stunning sapphire necklace around my throat, catching the afternoon light perfectly as my dear mother-in-law Lady Jocelyn pours tea for our distinguished guests.

"Of course, when the Southern Queen personally selected these pieces for me," I say, touching the necklace with practiced casualness, "I was simply overwhelmed by her generosity."

The wives of the pack council members lean forward, practically drooling with envy. Exactly as it should be.

Summer's POVI walk out of that dining room with my spine straight and my head high, but the moment I'm out of his sight, I have to lean against the hallway wall to catch my breath. My hands are shaking. My chest feels hollow, like someone reached inside and carved out everything that mattered.*Everything else is just sentiment.*His words from the Council meeting echo in my head on repeat. Not just what he said to them, but what he couldn't say to me when I asked him directly.*You're my wife.*That's all I am to him. A legal obligation. A means to break his curse.I push myself off the wall and head upstairs to our bedroom. Tomorrow is my birthday party—the social event of the season, according to every invitation response we've received. Everyone who matters in werewolf society will be there to see the great Alpha Luxian's Luna.To see his investment.I sit on the edge of our bed and stare at my hands. Three days ago, I thought we were building something real. The way he guided me

Luxian's POVI've been on edge all fucking day.Summer's coldness is eating at me like acid, making me restless in ways I don't know how to handle. Every interaction feels like walking through a minefield, waiting for her to detonate whatever bomb she's been building in that sharp mind of hers. This morning, she asked for coffee with the same tone she'd use to request poison. At lunch, she thanked me for the birthday arrangements like I'd just handed her a death sentence. And now, watching her sit at the opposite end of our dining table, pushing food around her plate like it personally offended her, I feel like I'm losing my goddamn mind. The silence between us is suffocating. I've negotiated million-dollar deals with less tension than this dinner conversation. Hell, I've stared down enemy Alphas who wanted me dead with more comfort than I feel right now.But Summer's disappointment? Her cold indifference? It's making me feel like a fucking teenager again, desperate for approval I d

Rhys's POVThe invitation sits on my desk where Virginia threw it an hour ago, and I can't stop staring at Summer's photograph. She looks radiant. Happy in a way I remember from our early days together, before everything went wrong. Before I let my mother and the pack pressure get to me.But what pisses me off most is that she's happy without me. After everything we had - a marriage arranged by our fathers, a bond that was supposed to unite our families - she just walked away and found something better.Like our history meant nothing.Virginia storms back into my study, her face twisted with rage. "Did you see this? Did you fucking see what she did to us?"She waves her own invitation like evidence of a personal attack."I saw it.""She knew, Rhys. She had to know we were trying to book Rosevale Manor. This is deliberate sabotage."My mother appears in the doorway, holding her invitation with white-knuckled fury. "That manipulative little bitch planned this. Timed it perfectly to dest

Summer's POVI'm looking for Luxian when I hear the voices coming from his study. The door is slightly ajar, and I can make out at least three different men inside with him. Council members, from the sound of their pompous tones.I should knock. Should announce myself like a proper Luna.Instead, I find myself stopping just outside the door, something in their conversation catching my attention."—the matter of perception," one of them is saying. "Some of the pack members have questions about the Luna's suitability for her position."My blood turns cold."Her previous marriage was rather... public in its failures," another voice continues. "And her bloodline, while respectable, isn't exactly prominent."They're talking about me. About whether I'm good enough to be their Luna.I should leave. Should walk away before I hear something that will hurt. But I can't move."Are you questioning my choice of mate?" Luxian's voice is deadly quiet. For a moment, hope flares in my chest. He's goin

Luxian's POVThe scent of Summer lingers on my pillow when I roll over at dawn, but the bed beside me is cold. She's already up, probably trying to process what happened between us in the forest. The memory of her wolf—silver and graceful under moonlight—makes something primal stir in my chest. She was fucking magnificent. Wild in ways I'd forgotten women could be.But more than that, she trusted me. Let me guide her through the shift, let me hunt beside her like we were true mates instead of bound by contracts and curses. The thought should satisfy the possessive beast in me. Instead, it leaves me hungry for more.I find her in the breakfast room, already dressed and staring out the window with a cup of coffee growing cold in her hands. When she looks at me, her expression is carefully blank."Morning," I say, settling across from her."Alpha." The formal address hits like a slap. "I trust you slept well."The walls are back up. Higher than before."Well enough." I study her face, l

Summer's POVI'm staring at my reflection when the knock comes. Soft. Insistent."Come in," I say, not turning. Probably a maid with party stuff. But it's Luxian. He holds white roses. Perfect. Pure. My heart stutters before I can hide it."What's this?" My voice stays cool.He places them on the dresser next to me. The scent hits, sweet, clean, too much like him."An apology," he says, low and rough.I almost laugh. "From you? The mighty Alpha Luxian? Never thought I'd see the day.""Summer.""No." I spin to face him. "Flowers don't erase what you did in that study. You treated me like something you own. Because you were pissed."His jaw locks. "I crossed a line. A big one.""A line?" I step closer, arms crossed tight. "You used me. Like property. Like Rhys did."Pain flashes in his eyes, sharp, real, then vanishes."I'm not him.""Aren't you?" My voice cracks. "Same possessiveness. Same control. Same violence when I push back. The only difference? You never pretended to love me."Hi
