Killian

I sat in my car, impatiently waiting for Aspen to step out of her house. Her place made me feel sick and I was already tired of whatever family drama that was going on. I already suspected that her father was going to do something like that. I saw the look of greed in his eyes when I handed the check over to him. I already predicted that he would turn on his daughter and his dying wife.

I pulled out my phone to call Brooke, “Boss,” Brooke called the moment he picked up the call.

“Find Alex Vale. I suspect that he’s still here in the city. Do everything you can to find him and make sure that he does not escape. Let me know once you find him.” Brooke was my head guard and he was very good at his job. In no time, he was going to find me Alex Vale whom I was going to deal with in my own way.

“Okay, boss.”

“Take him to my Torture house once you find him. And retrieve whatever check you find with him.” I was not a good person and I did not fight for people or even interfere in their matters and I seriously did not care about Aspen or what she had with her father.

But if I was going to be technical, the money belonged to her. She was a grown adult and was the person I married, not her father. The money was rightfully hers and I was going to give it to her.

After ending my call with Brooke, I went ahead to call Damien. The only man that I could call a friend. Maybe he was the only person who could tolerate me. “Kill,” He called.

“Did you get the DNA results?” I asked and I felt nervous. Aspen looked so much like Flora. My ex-girlfriend back in college. I loved her. I did a lot of things for her, but then she left. She broke my heart and left me longing for her.

Nothing had gotten me nervous for five years, but I got nervous after seeing Aspen standing right in front of me. Her face reminded me of Flora. My first love.

“Yes. And Aspen is not flora. She is actually Aspen Vale. 22 years old. She dropped out of college last year. You and Flora finished college years ago. She is not your ex.” Damien reported and I sighed heavily.

“Are they related?” Flora came from a rich home, there was no way Aspen would be her sister.

“No. I think them looking alike is just a coincidence. Was that why you chose to marry her?" Part of the reason why I decided to marry Aspen was that she looked like Flora.

“Kill, I know that you are still crazy about Flora. But do not taint Aspen with your black heart and don't break her too much. You already got what you wanted by getting married, I think you should let the girl be and—” I did not allow Damien to finish when I ended the call.

I already heard what I wanted to hear from him. I did not want to hear more. I just ended the call when Aspen arrived, carrying a bag with her. “You are six minutes late. I specifically told you to come back here in five minutes.” I reminded her immediately after she got into the car, but she ignored me.

If there was something that I hated the most, it was getting ignored. My jaw clenched and I angrily removed my hand from the steering wheel when I grabbed Aspen by her jaw, tilting her head forcefully to look at me.

“I'm not the kind of man that you will want to disobey.” Aspen's eyes widened with unshed tears as she tried struggling with me. But seeing those tears in her eyes gave me an exciting thrill.

I smiled. “Do not test me. I'm far from gentle.” Releasing her jaw, I returned my focus to the steering. “What hospital is your mother in?” I asked, starting my car.

“C…i….ci..city hospital.” Aspen stammered and tears spilled down her face. She looked pretty when crying. I liked it.

The ride to the hospital was not silent at all as Aspen kept sniffling and crying. It was when we had almost dried her tears that she wiped her eyes. “Where is my phone?” She asked, immediately after I packed my car.

“I don't know,” I confessed, undoing my seatbelt.

“What do you mean by you don't know?” Aspen exclaimed, her eyes widening. “I came to your house with it.”

“And I got rid of all the trash. It must have gone along with it.” Her cellphone should literally not have been classified as a cellphone. I didn't even know how she was using that.

“I have memories in it. Pictures and contacts. You can’t just throw my things away.” Aspen protested.

“I will get someone to find it. Will you wrap this up? I have somewhere to be.” I uttered impatiently, taking a look at my wristwatch while tapping my foot restlessly against the brakes.

It was coming again. That need. The need to spill blood. I was starting to feel restless. Being a psychopath dealing with PTSD has always been a major challenge for me. But I found a way to go about it and that was spilling blood.

I needed to kill someone. That was the only way to calm me down or I was going to lose it. I would become aggressive and angry and no one wanted to see me angry or in my psychopathic state.

“Let's make this quick.” I stepped down from the car and Aspen did the same. Anyone who would see her with me was going to pity her, especially people who knew the real me. I was a monster. A heartless one.

Aspen was innocent. She had that innocent aura hovering all over her, but it was too sad that she caught the attention of a monster.

Aspen Clear practically bounced into the bedroom, dragging me behind her as if I had no choice in the matter. “Aspen! Come on, we don’t have all day! You need to look amazing for your date tonight,” she said, practically vibrating with excitement.“I—Clear, wait—” I started, but she didn’t give me a chance. She yanked open my wardrobe, rifling through clothes with lightning speed. “We need something elegant but not over-the-top, classy but flirty. Something that says, ‘I’m approachable, but look, I have standards.’”I blinked at her. “Clear… I just—”“No talking. Let me work my magic,” she interrupted, holding up a deep red dress with a flourish. “This one! It’s perfect! Look at this color! Deep, rich, dramatic. Killian won’t know what hit him.”I hesitated, glancing at the dress. It was stunning—soft fabric that would cling just enough without being too tight, a slit that flirted at the right angle—but I felt a nervous flutter in my stomach at the thought of Killian seeing me in it.

Aspen I yelled when he yanked the phone again, my voice sharp enough to make even the walls tremble slightly. “Killian! Seriously? Give me back my phone!” I snapped, snapping my hand toward him, though he was fast—way too fast—and his fingers wrapped around my wrist, stopping me.He didn’t answer me immediately. He just held my phone away, just out of reach, and tilted his head like he was considering me, sizing me up. The silence stretched long enough to make me swallow hard, my anger shifting into frustration.“You know what?” he finally said, his voice low and deliberate. “You love to hang out.”I froze mid-gesture, blinking at him. “Excuse me?”“You like spending time with people,” Killian repeated, letting my words linger like a dare. “You like going out. You like laughing, being around others. You enjoy it, right?”I blinked at him, caught completely off guard. He wasn’t accusing me. He wasn’t scolding me. He was… stating it like a fact. Something dark and possessive in the way

Aspen I was sitting on the edge of the sofa, phone pressed to my ear, and I could feel the corners of my lips tugging up into a smile I couldn’t quite hide. “Yes, Mom is doing better,” I said, trying to sound casual, though Luke’s voice made it impossible not to grin.“That’s good to hear,” he replied, smooth as always. “I’ll be in the city for a few days. Maybe we could grab coffee? Just catch up properly?”Coffee sounded perfect. Nothing serious, nothing romantic. I liked Luke. I liked hanging out with him. He made things easy and light, and after everything with Killian, a little ease was exactly what I needed. “Sure, that sounds nice,” I said, hoping my voice didn’t sound too eager. Then Killian appeared like a storm on my doorstep, fast and sudden. Before I could even process what was happening, he yanked the phone from my hand.“Who’s this?” His voice was low and sharp, the kind that made your stomach tighten involuntarily.“Killian! Give me back my phone!” I snapped, standing

Aspen Clear and I finally went home. The drive had been quiet, filled only with the sound of rain tapping against the car window and the occasional sniffle from me. Clear had not spoken much, lost in her own thoughts, probably replaying the encounter with our mother over and over in her mind. I had tried to speak, to explain a few things, but the words stuck in my throat. My mind was still spinning, still raw from the fear, the panic, and the weight of being unseen. As soon as we arrived, Clear went straight to her room. She dropped her bag beside the bed and collapsed onto the mattress, her body heavy with exhaustion. She did not even glance at me. Her breathing was steady but slow, a clear sign that her mind and body were done for the day. I watched her for a moment, wanting to speak, to say something comforting, but the words faltered again. She was gone in her world now, and I was left behind.I sank into the sitting room, the only quiet place in the house that felt empty enough

AspenFear hit me the moment my mother asked about our father. My chest tightened, and my stomach knotted as if someone had wrapped it in iron. My fingers trembled, clutching my bag as if it could hold me together. Every nerve in my body screamed at me to run, to disappear, to sink into the floor and vanish. I could barely breathe. My lips moved, but no sound came out at first. My mind spun, wild and panicked. The question was simple, but it felt like a trap. I had no words that would satisfy her. No lie that could survive her sharp, piercing gaze.Clear’s eyes searched mine, desperate. “Aspen,” she said quietly. “Where is he?”I tried to steady my trembling hands. My mouth opened and closed as I scrambled for something, anything that could sound true. The panic in my chest pressed harder, making my thoughts whirl uncontrollably.“He… he went to find you,” I said at last, voice shaking. “He… he said he had to bring you back, he was scared for your life, and he wanted to make sure you

ASPEN I walked down the hospital corridor with Clear behind me. The floor was too shiny, the lights too bright, and every sound echoed as if the building itself were holding its breath. I felt smaller with every step. Clear’s presence made it worse, because she belonged here in a way I never had. I had spent three years visiting my mother alone. I knew the rules. I knew how to move, when to speak, how to sit without being noticed. I had learned to erase myself in that room. Now my erasure would be tested against the living proof of the daughter my mother had lost.Clear followed a few steps behind, careful, deliberate. Her hoodie hung loosely over her thin frame. Her hair was short now, framing her face in a way that made her look older, sharper. I could see her hands clench at her sides. She hesitated in small, silent ways that betrayed her nervousness. I wanted to warn her. I wanted to tell her she did not know what she was walking into. The door came into view. Room 417.I paused.
