Vida pulled away from Axel the minute the slow dance was over. She wanted to return to the bar and just watch from a distance but was intercepted by a girl with a bubbly personality. She had a huge smile on her face, and Vida wished she would reciprocate, but she couldn't, so she gave her a half-arsed smile.

"Finally, I get to meet you," the girl said, and Vida frowned. She was not that popular, as people only truly heard about her because of the wedding. It was not like she intended to hide; it was just that because she was never in the country, nobody could ever know her.

"Me? Are you sure you've got the right person?" Vida asked. She wanted to leave, but knowing that the person in front of her could be anyone, she did not want to be the one upsetting anyone who could help her. "I don't think that is what anyone would say to me," she added when she saw the expression on her face.

"I understand your confusion; it's because I haven't introduced myself yet." Anna bent her head slightly;

    "It's been only two days but I feel sore as if I ran up a mountain ten times," Emily groaned as they fell to the couch. Kat had insisted that they cancel the wedding planners that her father had hired and do everything by themselves, stating that this was the only fun fact about a wedding."I wonder why I listened to Kat; all of this would have been handled by a bunch of people who would get paid in the end," Vida said."Well, do you have the money to pay them?" Kat asked and they all took a breath, understanding what she meant."Well, who says I have to be the one who pays? Axel is there, and he is the one who wants to go in for this marriage, so don't you think he should be the one paying?" Vida asked. Her friends looked at her with a stunned expression. Even though it did not sound like something positive, this was the first time she talked about him, and her description did not sound like she was talking about a monster. "You know I am right, so I think we should call the planners

    Vida forced herself to go through breakfast with Axel, constantly zoning out while he spoke. She did not like that he seemed happy doing what he wanted while she was stuck doing business. When breakfast was over, she practically ran out of the restaurant without looking back."Vida? Why do you look so angry? Did something happen when you were out?" Maria asked as soon as she ran into her in the hallway. Vida knew that saying that Acel's success had affected her mood was a bit too strange, but then it was her nanny, and she was sure she would understand. She also hated the fact that he seemed to have such a strong effect on her to change her mood so seriously. She had to swear that she was okay a few hours before meeting him earlier today."Vida? You're back," Kat said. Vida raised her eyes to see her friends dressed in comfy clothes walking towards her. For a moment, she had suddenly forgotten that they were around. She pressed her lips together as they stood in front of her."Where h

    All of the snarky and hurtful words that Vida had been thinking of in her head to throw back at him had suddenly flown out as soon as she heard his compliment. She could not understand why he would say something so outright to her like that. Axel was thrilled to know that she was just as normal as he was. This was the first time he had seen her blush, and it made her cute. 'She was a girl after all,' he thought to himself. Maybe complimenting her often and catching her off guard would make her seem less terrifying anytime they met.Vida did not know how to respond to this compliment; she had caught him stealing glances at her multiple times, but the truth was that she had never thought he would be brave enough to compliment her directly to her face. She was a bit flattered to hear that, but coming from him made it all feel weird. She also found it suspicious that he was doing it out of the blue. Was this his way of buttering her up? Did he do this so he could have full control over ev

    Vida stayed by the grave, and even though she did not keep track of time, she knew it had been a while. She ranted, bearing her heart to her father. After a while, she was frustrated that he was not going to be able to respond, so she dusted off his grave and stood up to leave. She dusted herself and stretched after sitting on the floor for too long before making her way through the other graves at the site back to her car.She slowed down when she saw Axel at her car. She did not need glasses to know he was the one, even though she could barely distinguish his face from such a distance. She bit her lips, knowing she could not avoid him now that he had latched himself to her car. She walked to him, gently put her feet down, and cleared her throat.Axel, who had his head down, raised his head slowly to her. "Hi there," he said with a smile. Vida could not understand why he was still standing there. Was he stupid enough not to be able to read the cues she threw at him earlier, or was he

    Vida was awoken the next morning by Maria hurriedly coming into her room to give her 'good news', although she would not really classify it as that because, to her, she did not care if it was good to every other person. The news about their engagement made it to the first page of both business papers and lifestyle magazines. Her mind was beginning to grasp just how important Axel was, and if he was that important, why did he choose her? Was there something they had as a family that he had his eyes on? She wondered but did not say it to her nanny because she knew the woman would scold her for being harsh on him."Isn't this just wonderful?" Maria asked, clapping her hands together ever so gleefully."I guess," Vida shrugged as she sat up in bed with a yawn. She did not want to dampen the mood of the woman, as this seemed all so exciting to her."I am so glad you are marrying someone as influential as this. I mean, it can only be this good, right?" Maria asked, and Vida nodded. Her phon

    Vida had hated that she had to play the happy couple wuth Axel but if she had to get her plan of exposing him rolling, then she thought that this was a very small price to be paid. Her friends had dragged her out shopping and she was glad that she did because the silver dress she had gotten hugged her curves so tightly that they made her do a double take in the mirror.Axel dropped by the house to pick her up and she could see how he was drooling over her but she decided to ignore it. She just wanted to get over tonight in one piece and knowing she would have to act like his arm candy all night long tired her out. She was shocked to see the number of press waiting for them outside the venue just to take a picture and hear a few words from the couple."Don't these people have better problems to cover?" Vida asked herself as she saw them rush to the car after Axel had slowed down."Wait," he said when she was about to open her door and step out. He shut off the car and came down to open

    Vida was now learning to rely on Axel and that made him glad; maybe things would be different for them going on. John's lawyer came because he had to read the will. Although Vida did not understand what was there to read, since she was the only child of her father, shouldn't she just inherit everything he had without having to think too much about it?After all of the formalities with the lawyer, he announced that there was a latest revision to the will from about two weeks ago. Vida could not understand why her father would revise his will; was there anything there to revise?"Can you just carry on?" Vida said when the lawyer stopped to give them the space to take in the recent information. She thought that her father might want to give something to his executive assistant and her nanny. They had done so much for him that, sincerely, it only made sense if he did that."Okay, ma'am," he said, taking up the file he dropped to his lap and reading from it. "The John Van Allen assets woul

    Vida had no idea how she had gotten to the hospital. She stood in the room where her father had been just a few minutes ago, alive and well, but now he was gone. She felt a pang of regret fill her mind; she never thought that the last time she saw him was going to be the last. She had procrastinated going to see him all day because she believed he would be there by the next morning, when she wanted to see him.The doctor stood in front of her with Axel by her side. She looked at him, and all she could hear, even though he seemed to be saying a lot, was a loud ringing in her ears. She swallowed a knot that formed in her throat and tried to listen, but it was not working. She wanted to know why he had died all of a sudden when he was fine.She watched the doctor leave after shaking hands with Axel and she wanted to chase after him but her response was slow. She wanted to beg him to try all he could to wake her father once again. She remembered how often her father asked her for a visit w
