I stood in the middle of the room, frozen like an ice sculpture.

The air was sucked from my lungs. My fingers trembled by my sides. Luca... had a wife? And a son? How was that even possible?

He'd given no hint, no clue that he was involved with another woman, let alone married and with a son.

My eyes rested on the little boy clinging to the doorway, blinking up at me with wide blue eyes—Luca’s eyes. His hair curled at the edges like Luca’s did when he let it grow. His chin, his expression... it was all him. I couldn’t look away; it felt like watching a mini Luca. My heart battered in my chest.

“Say hello, Marco,” Selene suddenly said softly. She went to her son and placed a gentle hand on the boy’s shoulder.

Marco gave a shy wave.

I couldn't return the gesture. My hands felt numb, just like the rest of my body. I could only hear the loud drumming of my pulse.

"I never knew..." I shook my head; my words trailed off.

Caesar walked across the room and stopped close to S

I left the library with shaky legs, a skittering heart, and a clouded mind. There was a way out of this. I could get out of this cage... I could see Vince again. I just needed to be smart and quick. I could do this. I just needed a little help getting out. I made my way through the servants’ hallway, past the kitchen, until I found a narrow staircase that led to the lower wing—the maid’s quarters. I walked past rows of small wooden doors until I found one that was slightly ajar. I peeped in and found an elderly woman with silver hair tied into a neat bun; she was folding freshly laundered linens. Her face was worn but kind, she looked welcoming and I was immediately drawn to her. She straightened up as soon as she spotted me by the door. She didn't appear surprised; she just smiled instead. "My lady. What brings you to the maid quarters?" she asked. I entered slowly, looking around her room. It was neat and smelled of herbs. "I'm in need of help," I told her. She p

I woke up to the soft feeling of silk sheets and fluffy pillows beneath me. The room was illuminated in a purple glow, the curtains hung down and no shade of sunlight, telling me it was dark again. My head was foggy, like I’d been asleep for days instead of hours. My stomach rumbled with hunger; I hadn't eaten for a day now. I yawned, struggling to sit up fully, then, the door pushed open. Caesar stepped in, followed by two maids carrying silver trays. “Ah, sleeping beauty finally awakens,” he said smoothly as he walked majestically to me. He looked fresh, dressed in a dark casual outfit. His hair was wet, so he must have just gotten out of the shower. The trays were placed on the small table near the chaise lounge by the corner. Bowls of soup, fresh bread, sliced fruits, roasted chicken, and a silver glass jug of juice—it looked like a feast fit for royalty. I stared at the food, then looked at him. I wasn't smiling. “Why did you bring me all this... food?” Caesar chuckled and

I stood in front of a hidden fenced building. It was the same underground building Caesar had locked Vincenzo in.Was this a prison for his enemies? Would I one day end up in here too? Nothing was impossible with this evil man.We walked down a narrow concreted hallway, lit only by dim yellow lights, until we stopped before a steel door.He signaled for the guard on duty to unlock it, the sound of the bolts echoed through the dark hall.I braced myself for the sight of Luca. He was chained to the wall, shirtless, wearing only torn black trousers. His face was barely covered in bruises—surprisingly. There was only a cut on his lip. His arms hung loosely, restrained by new chains.“Luca,” I whispered. He didn't move; he just stared at me like he couldn't believe I was here. His eyes were unfamiliar, but they still held love for me.“Jessica." He exhaled. My name on his lips again gave me a little strength.“Ten minutes,” Caesar's deep voice startled me. I felt him at my back as his face

I sat on the purple velvet rug, crying helplessly on the edge of the bed. My pale skin was stained with Vince’s blood, his last words plastered in my frail heart. The room was silent, my sobs echoing. My Vince had been humiliated, beaten, and stripped of his title... And here I was, crying in the home of the very man who had perpetrated the downfall. My fingers clutched the sheets, as if they could hold me together while I shattered. How much pain could I bear? I didn't even know where Luca was, if he was okay, if he was dead. I hadn't heard from my family either. Mad with agony, I moved off the bed in search of a blade to take my own life. I was tired of living, breathing, and hurting. As I made haste for the mahogany wardrobe, the door creaked open. I didn't have to turn over to know it was Ceaser. I knew it was him by the sound of his footsteps—that sound would forever give me nightmares. His boots thudded softly on the rug as he came closer and closer... “Jessica,” he

The heavy looking double doors opened into a long aisle in between two columns of pews occupied by strange people. They were mostly men, dressed in all black. Many had tattoos, long hair that kissed their collars, or short hair that showed their scalps. The few women present wore black hats, covering their faces with only their red lips on display. They all watched me as I walked past them like an auction on display. At the end of the aisle were seven gray-haired men. They had similar tattoos; they were dressed in ceremonial black robes. They looked like something out of a secret society. It all seemed like a cult. My heart thumped heavily.“Caesar,” I whispered, holding him tight like he could protect me from them. “What is this? What’s happening?”He didn’t answer. He just kept walking, leading me to the end of the aisle. We both stood in front of the seven old men, and then, suddenly, the side doors slammed open. A shirtless, large man was dragged into the room by chains. He was co
