I staggered backwards at the sound of the door unlocking and then the two men entered.
One was weirdly huge and the other had an ugly scar on his left cheek. “She’s awake.” The one with a scar sniggered. “Let’s take her to the boss.” The huge one said as he prowled to me and suddenly ripped off the tape from my mouth. Ouch. “No! Wait! Stop!” I tried to wiggle out from his grip on my arm, wincing a little from the soreness around my mouth. “Shut up bitch!” Scarface snapped and dragged me to himself. He smelled of strong perfume and cigar. “I’d hit you but the boss said not to.” He told me with a wolfish grin, exposing a gold tooth. I was dragged to a dark lounge smelling of leather and cigarettes. Everything was mahogany and rich leather. There was a bar at the side and a snooker too. There were three men relaxing in the lounge. I easily figured out who the boss—Vincenzo was. He sat on the biggest leather couch, his large hand holding a tumbler of whisky or something. I took a good look at his powerful features and fear gripped me. He was large, not weirdly, just impressively. He was really handsome too, you know, the kind of handsome that made one stare for too long. His hair was dark and a bit long, kissing the top of his collar. He had dark alluring eyes, his square jaws were covered in a neatly trimmed beard. He was wearing a black shirt opened to his muscular chest, I could see a gold necklace glistening in between the V of his opened shirt. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, revealing large arms covered in tattoos. He was wearing dark trousers too and I couldn’t help but look in between his powerful thighs and swallowed at the sight of a visible gathering in his groin area. The other two men were in black clothes too and smoking fat cigar sticks, puffing a cloud of smoke into the air and watching me just as Vincenzo was. “Where is your man?” Vincenzo asked in a hard voice, startling me. His accent was lightly Italian. “I-I don’t know, he’s been missing for days.” I stammered, trying not to look too deep into his cold eyes. I couldn’t tell if they were grey or bright blue from the distance I was standing. “Don’t risk your pretty head for a fucking foolish cunt like Yoyo. Just tell me where he is and I’ll let you leave in one piece. Lie to me and I’ll send you to heaven where angels like you belong.” He threatened and I should be very scared but instead, I was trying hard not to think about the fact that he indirectly called me an angel. “I don’t even know who Yoyo is.” I told him, truthfully. Vincenzo dragged a look from my head to my feet before giving a short nod to one of the men standing beside me and then, the weirdly huge one showed me a familiar photo in his phone. “Toby..” I gasped out loud. It was a photo of Toby on his motorcycle. Why did they have his photo!? “Ah yes, Tobias Shaw but in the casino we know him as Yoyo.” One of the men with Vincenzo said. “He stole a hundred thousand dollars from me.” Vincenzo spoke, drawing my attention back to him. His face was dark and unforgiving and I instantly regretted the day I met Toby. Why would anyone in their right mind steal from the feared Vincenzo and such a huge amount too!? “I didn’t know about that. I swear.” Tears streamed down my eyes as I feared for my life. There was no way I was getting out of this without a scratch. “Where is he?” Vincenzo asked, darkly. “I don’t know.” I shook my head, shaking like a leaf. “Very well then.” He shrugged and drank whatever remained in his glass. “If your man does not return my money in twenty four hours, I will put a fucking bullet through your pretty head so you better pray to whatever god you know that he grows a pair of fucking balls and show his fucking face, do you understand me, bellissimo?” I didn’t know what bellissimo meant but the way he pronounced it was so sexy and so Italian. But, I was too scared about getting a bullet in my head to think about that. “I understand.” I nodded, vigorously as I felt a little relief that I still had twenty four hours to live. “Take her back.” He ordered the men behind me. Take me back? To that dark scary room!? “No! Please!” I tried to beg him but Scarface suddenly shut me up with a stinging slap. I held my face in horror, reeling back from the shock of the hard slap. “Tommy!” Vincenzo barked and I jumped, whimpering and shivering. “Yes boss.” Scar face replied behind me. He was Tommy. “Come here.” Vincenzo crooked a finger at him and slowly, he walked to his boss. “Show me the hand you slapped her with.” Vincenzo said and I paid close attention to what was about to happen. Tommy, now shaking in fear, slowly took out his right hand to his boss. “Place it on the table.” His boss ordered and Tommy did just that. Just then, Vincenzo took out a small knife from the back of his black leather belt and sliced off the last two digits of Tommy’s hands. Blood splattered on the table. I immediately threw up at the horrible sight of the dismembering and Tommy yelled out in pain. “Touch her again and you lose the rest of your fingers.” Vincenzo said coldly to him and he nodded in obedience, holding his shaky hands spilling out blood. “Rico! Take her to Lydia.” Vincenzo ordered the weirdly huge guy and I was taken away with my clothes covered in vomit. Was this the end for me?~~LUCA~~ Growing up, Vince was my idol. The man I desperately wanted to become. He got the power, the respect, the girls. It was easy for him to become Capo. That same man I called my brother for decades had lied to me about our ties. He had kept a big part of his life from me. Everything was different now. Everything was so fucking different. My knuckles were tight on the steering wheel as I pulled into the underground parking of a casino in Seattle. Vince was in there. My mind was playing all sorts of violent scenarios as I stomped down the dark corridor to the pit—a dark room where deals went south and screams were muffled by thick concrete walls. I found Vince there, standing over a bloodied man that was tied to a chair. The poor guy looked barely conscious, his face decorated with purple lumps, his shirt soaked in blood that dripped from one side of his head. I looked to the dirty floors, and a bloody ear was by a corner where three of our men stood watching with a smile on
Joyce arrived no later than an hour after I had called her. I held little Lily as she slept—she was still in her school uniform, Joyce probably picked her up from school and drove straight here.I watched Joyce in silence, her eyes were fixed on her shaky hands. Lola sat beside her on the rug, whispering apologetic words. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying. The tension in the room was thick. My hands were still shaking, and inside my head was a total mess.“Call your son. I want to see him,” Joyce's voice was in that scary tone she used whenever she was about to crash out.My head snapped up. “No. Absolutely not.” I countered her.She shot a glare at me. “And why not, Jessica?”“Because Vince isn’t the kind of man you just summon,” I said, swallowing. “He could... hurt you.”“Hurt me?” She scoffed, turning to face me.I gently laid Lily on the couch and stood up.“You don’t understand what he’s capable of,” I said, my eyes wide and with my hands out like I was describing Dracul
The photo was clenched tight in my hand, the edges digging into my skin as I stared into it like I was staring into a black hole. Vincenzo?! How?! Was this some sort of hallucination? How the hell is his old photo in my box of old properties?! I needed an explanation. I stormed down the stairs, my heartbeat thundering in my ears. The smell of chocolate drifted into my nose as I reached the kitchen. Lola stood at the counter, humming softly as she folded brownie batter into a bowl. I watched her for seconds, not knowing how to ask what I was about to ask. "Mom? Why is this photo in my room?" I stammered, holding up the picture in my shaky hand. Lola turned over her shoulder, her eyes squinting with her usual cheerful expression, but in a flash, her smile completely faded. She went still, her breathing became scattered. The spoon in her hand slipped and clattered into the bowl. “Jessica,” she said carefully. “Where did you find that?” I took a shaky breath and licked my lips.
I was frozen, my lips still tingling as my heart pounding in my chest. Vince stood at the door, tall with slithered eyes. His gaze was locked on me, not even shifting to Luca beside me in bed.“Luca. Out.” he growled."Vince, I—”“I said out.” Vince's voice cut sharply through the air.Luca looked down for a moment as if contemplating whether to obey his brother's order or not. Then slowly, he stood up. As he passed Vince, their shoulders hit, and Luca stopped at the door.“She was scared. I was just trying to help,” he explained, but Vince didn’t respond. He didn’t even blink. Luca looked over at me, sighed, and went out the door.Vince's eyes darkened making my breath hitch. “Vince, this isn't—”“Don’t,” he clipped, cutting off my words. He prowled toward me, his eyes dancing all over me. I gripped the sheets, my stomach twisting. He stopped by the edge of the bed.“I love you, Jess.” His voice was low and laced with warning. “More than anything. But if you ever make me fight my bro
The cold metal around my wrists dug into my skin. I remembered how Luca and Vince had cuffed me this way. One was for pleasure, and the other, abduction. This was much worse. This was death. I didn’t dare move, not even a twitch. From the moment Vince burst into the room, I wanted to scream in relief… but I couldn’t. The bomb. The ticking sound. I could blow up the entire house with one risky move. I watched Vince’s face as he stared at the ticking padlock. He swore under his breath and stumbled back, his fists clenched and his jaw locked in furiosity. Luca stepped in behind him, and I saw the same horror appear on his face as he crouched beside the bed and inspected the padlock. “There’s a ticking mechanism inside,” he muttered. “She’s the counterweight. If we release her—” “We’ll all be blown to pieces,” Vince finished Luca’s words. My heart was pounding violently, my body trembled. I had to stay calm. If I moved too much, I could kill us all. “I’m going to get you out,” Vinc
~~VINCENZO~~ Pain throbbed in my head as I blinked, my eyes opening to the warm glow of a lamp. I was barely alive. I looked around, there were wooden beams lining the ceiling above me. I was in a cabin. I tried to move, but my ribs ached—everywhere ached. Caesar's boys had beaten me to the point of near death. I’m sure they would have finished the job if I wasn’t Capo. I was startled by a soft hand brushed over my chest, slow and lingering. I stirred, trying to sit up. “Easy, handsome,” a woman’s voice purred beside me. “You’ve been through hell.” I turned my head and found a woman, she was young, olive-skinned, full red lips, hovering over me. She wore white scrubs that clung a little too tight to her body, her neckline a little too low, exposing a heap of cleavage. Her fingers pressed against my bare abdomen, slipping a little too low under the blanket. “You need to rest,” she whispered, trailing her touch toward my hipbone. “But I can help you… relax.” She drawled. I gritte
Caesar took me to an underground building. It had felt like I was walking into the underworld. He led me down a long corridor, dark and cold, until we stopped in front of a heavy steel door. He nodded to the guard on duty. The man punched in a code, and the door swung open.“Vince!” I cried, rushing forward at the sight of my man.He was chained to the wall, shirtless, bruised from head to toe. Blood stained his jaw. His eye was swollen shut. But his head lifted the moment he heard my voice.“Cara?” His voice was hoarse, but filled with disbelief… and pain.I dropped to my knees beside him, reaching for his face. “I’m here. Oh my God, baby…” I cried. He tried to touch me, but the chains held him back.“What did he do to you?” I sobbed, caressing his bumpy face with shaky hands. “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry…”Caesar stepped inside, arms crossed, his expression grim, like the sight of Vince and I together irritated him.“Get your hands off her!” Vince roared when Caesar suddenly reached
I sat on the cold tile floor under the shower, the icy water pouring over me like rain. My arms were wrapped around my knees as I shivered. I had been like this for minutes, paralyzed with dark thoughts, my mind a total mess.Caesar’s words played over and over in my head.“Marry me… and I’ll release him.”That sentence haunted me like a monster lurking in the dark. He had given me forty two hours to give him an answer. What was I supposed to choose?Give up my body… my future… to a man I did not love—or lose Vince forever?Just when I thought things were getting better... Caesar Augusto came into my life like a storm.Tears mixed with the water ran down my face. I felt like my heart was shrinking inside me.I was startled by a hard knock at the door, pulling me back to reality.I turned off the shower and listened for another sound.“Jessica?” It was Luca’s voice. My heart sped up. I quickly wrapped my robe around me and opened the door slowly. My breath caught in my throat when I sa
Luca didn’t speak much on the ride back to my penthouse. His jaw was clenched tight, and the dried blood on his shirt made my stomach turn. I sat beside him in agonizing silence, curled up against the door of the car, my heart still racing from the horror we had just escaped. But had we really escaped? Vince was still in Caesar’s den. And I had no idea what they were doing to him. When we got home, I barely made it to the living room before collapsing onto the couch. My hands were shaking. My skin felt cold and clammy. I could still see Vince in my mind... on his knees, bleeding, cuffed. “Do you want anything?” Luca asked quietly. His voice was hoarse. I looked up at him; he was standing over me with a defeated demeanor. “Water? Tea?” I shook my head. I didn't want anything, I just want to be in Vince's arms. Safe and secured. There was a long silence before he sighed and came to sit beside me. I pulled my knees up to my chest and stared out at the city lights. It felt wron
