The room was dark, and Lyle leaned against the door, his eyes locked on me.

I scanned the room the best I could, noticing that the shadows that lurked in the corners seemed darker than the rest of the room somehow.

“What is this?” I asked, my eyes adjusting to the darkness. “Where’s Amber?”

“Amber isn’t here. I told you.”
