At 6 pm, Aaron strolled casually towards her workstation, whistling, looking like someone without a care in the world.
He was wearing a brown jacket, light yellow shirt and white slacks. His dark thick hair was combed to the back, and unlike his brother's not a single hair was out of place.
His face bore a smug expression, as if his father owned the place.
Technically, it is true.
His father or rather, the Knight family did own the building.
Aaron's office is just a few floors above theirs, located on the eleventh floor of Knight Towers while Arthur's office is on the seventh floor. To encourage collaboration among the different businesses owned by the Knight family, twenty years ago Avery Knight decided to house all of the different Knight business entities in the same building.
It was a genius move on his part because Knight Enterprises benefited greatly from the move as internal collaboration increased. Profits had risen substantially as the firm capitalised on the varied strength and resources of each subsidiary.
Victory looked up dazedly from her computer screen, a wide grin slowly spreading onto her beautiful oval face.
"Aaron!" She squealed, pushing her office chair backwards and excitedly running to embrace Aaron.
Her face muscles ached from not smiling all day.
If I continue to work like this, I'd totally give Mrs. Grinch a run for her money, she thought glumly. Oh my God, I could probably hold my own against a Karen, she shuddered.
"How are you, Vic?" Aaron asked, his muscled arms tightly hugging her across the waist.
"Did my dragon of a brother breathe fire over you? Let me check for burn marks."
Aaron spun her around, looking closely at her body up and down while wiggling his eyebrows dramatically, as if he was trying to inspect her body for damages.
Victory giggled and playfully punched him in the arm.
"Nope, the fire was directed at someone else today. And besides, it's my first day of work, I must be really bad at what I do if he were to roast me on my very first day," she retorted with a chuckle.
"That's my girl," Aaron whispered proudly into her ear and gave a gentle kiss on her forehead. He took her small hand into his and pulled her towards the CEO's private office, pushing the door open.
"Hello, brother," he greeted, smiling as he sauntered confidently into the room. "I hope your day went well?"
Arthur looked up from his work and glared irritatedly at their intrusion.
Aaron and Victory were standing casually in front of him, both their figures looking relaxed. One of Victory's dainty hands were entwined with Aaron's larger ones and he had a contented look across his face.
Hell, even their outfits matched. They could literally pass off as real-life Ken and Barbie, he observed to himself.
Removing his gaze from the happy couple, Arthur glanced at his watch and finally took stock of the time. Most of the employees would have left work by now, he realised.
"Ready to take your girlfriend home from work, I see." Arthur professed deliberately to Ken and Barbie.
He could imagine them both running into the sunset and living the picture perfect life. Waves lapping at their feet and hair windblown by the sea breeze, just like in one of those beach resort advertisements.
To be honest, he's happy that Aaron has found his girl. Although, Arthur found their relationship to be weird, bordering on kinky in fact.
Ever since they were sixteen, Aaron and Victory spent almost all their waking hours together, practically joined at the hip. However at night, Victory would let him to leave her side and not even bat an eye at him bedding other women.
Arthur wasn't sure which kinky new age relationship guru were these two following, but if it makes them happy, he's not one to complain.
Victory sputtered at his words, an incredulous look marring her face while Aaron gave a triumphant look at her.
"See, even my brother knows that YOU are MY GIRLFRIEND."
Victory quickly snatched her hand away from Aaron's and punched his shoulder.
Pouting like a four-year old, her tiny button nose scrunching up in distaste, she exclaimed angrily, "I am NOT his girlfriend!"
Her fingers curled inwards, fisting at the sides of her body. With knuckles turning white, she continued while huffing, "Besides, who'd want to be girlfriends with this man-whore? He practically slept with every female traveler that we met in Europe."
She shuddered and her eyes rolling to the back in sheer disgust.
"I mean, euww! Have some filter, man! There was no girl that he could say no to!" Victory states in distaste, her face contorted in mock horror.
"Aww, Vic. Come on, you know you love me," Aaron pulled Victory into an exaggerated bear hug.
"Those girls practically ran to me with their arms wide open." Aaron purred while his lips puckered to Victory's direction.
"You would too, if only you knew how great I am in bed." He then smiled at her lecherously, while giving her a meaningful dirty wink.
"Yes, Aaron, I love you, but not your DINGDONG."
Victory is one of those people who has a perversion to saying words that she feels are obscene or dirty. She then tries her best to replace the cuss words with other words and most of the time, her words made no sense at all. This time, what she was referring to is Aaron's member, jutting below his pelvis.
Obviously, Arthur did not know her as well as Aaron did, but he wasn't paying attention to their bickering. He had more important things to do and both of them were wasting his precious time.
"That trip to Europe had scarred me for life. For the love of God, I did not work here to listen to your sex life. I do not want to hear another session of girls screaming - Oh God Aaron, please of God yes Aaron.... Yesss... Aaron.. Yesssssss... " she hissed, throwing daggers from her eyes.
She put a finger into her mouth, making gagging sounds while glaring fiercely at Aaron.
"Sorry, Vic. Not everyone aspires to be a nun, like you." Aaron retorted, his muscled arms were now crossed in front of his torso looking extremely annoyed at Victory.
"And besides, I thought you went to Europe to lose your virginity and have random sex with European men. What happened to that, huh?" he questioned, raising one of his eyebrows into a perfect arc.
At twenty-four years old and unlike the man-whore Aaron, Victory is still a virgin. It's not that she was reserving herself for someone special. But spending almost all of her waking hours with Aaron has made it difficult for her to find other guys. If Aaron wasn't such a womaniser, she did consider that there could be a possibility that she might actually end up with him. However, that's a discussion for another day.
"It's a miracle you didn't sign yourself up for that convent in Switzerland. You would have fit in with them brilliantly." Aaron continued snarkily while giving her a deathly stare.
Pasting a serious look on her face, Victory gravely said, "I would have joined, you idiot. But they did not have a uniform in bright yellow. Imagine every single day wearing black. I simply cannot survive without my colours."
She stuck up her chin and solemnly shook her head from left to right. Her straight, shiny brown hair swayed in response to her movement.
"Oh! The horror!" She dramatically shuddered.
"Nope, that would be the death of me. I would shrivel up inside and die."
Aaron guffawed, laughing uncontrollably as his stomach wound up in stitches. He had tears coming from his eyes and slapped Victory several times behind her back.
True to her word, Victory was wearing a light yellow Burberry blazer, matched with a white Ralph Lauren blouse and black checkered pencil skirt, with bright yellow Jimmy Choos adorning her feet.
This girl would fit right in Sesame Street, Arthur mused. She'd definitely be best buddies with the Big Bird. Unknowingly, his lips tugged upwards into a small smile at the thought.
"What brings you here, Aaron?" He asked impatiently, giving his watch another glance. His deep voice was cold and unfriendly.
"Unlike you, some people actually have real work to do." He reminded Aaron sternly.
Today was also Aaron's first day of work at Knight Enterprises and he did not want Aaron to keep on running down to A. K. Media to play hooky with Victory. That would set a bad example among the employees.
Victory on the other hand, was done for the day, needing only to email Arthur his schedule for tomorrow. She knew Arthur's words was directed at Aaron.
She glanced expectantly towards Aaron, waiting for his reply.
"Arthur, do you have an extra invite to that Sephora event this Friday night? I'd like to come and shake my tail feathers," Aaron said while twerking shamelessly in front of Arthur.
Victory stifled an awkward laugh and face palmed. She stole a quick glance at Arthur, wanting to see his reaction.
Arthur's face was inscrutable. Looking totally unperturbed at Aaron twerking and wiggling his ass up to the air.
Besides, this is his brother that he's looking at. He has practically watched him grow since he was a baby. He's witnessed Aaron do much more embarrassing things that twerking. Things that most probably even Victory are not aware of.
Arthur's face looked thoughtful, as if he's trying to recall the event details. He pivoted his chair halfway back, facing the low office cabinets that were leaning against the wall behind him.
From the in-tray behind him, he pulled out a black and gold envelope with bright pink cursive font lettering emblazoned on top.
"Here you go, Ricky Martin," he mocked as he pushed the enveloped into Aaron's hand. "See you at the party."
His long slender fingers then took another envelope and handed them to Victory. "You, Miss Yellow Nun, will be going with me. I'll pick you up at 7.30 pm and make sure to wear something nice. Remember, you will be there to work, not twerk."
His right eyebrow shot up, his pale blue eyes giving out a private challenge as he gazed at her, as if daring her to twerk in front of him.
Oh, as if, she thought to herself.
I twerk way better than Aaron but I don't twerk in pencil skirts, buddy!
She mentally flipped her brown shiny hair at him.
"Can I wear something in pink?" She innocently asked while raising her eyebrows at him.
Hi! I'm joining the CEO and me contest. Could you help me by giving me some gems and sharing a 5 star review for the book? Thank you! xx F.A.R.
Friday rolled in quickly and without her realising, Victory had completed almost a whole week at A. K. Media. She smiled in satisfaction at her abilities to handle Arthur's tough demands. Her main responsibilities as the CEO's assistant is to ensure that all of Arthur's affairs are in order - basically if he needs anything done, she would be the one to do the groundwork or at least get an update or status report from the different teams in A. K. Media. Arthur prefer lean organisations - thus there are no bureaucracy, everyone is divided into teams and they all report to Arthur. The nature of her work is varied, which means that she gets to do different things everyday. However, this also mean that sometimes she had to get her hands dirty - scouting out potential venues for clients, recommending potential talents who are suitable for A. K. Media's varied events and also keeping tabs on the current month's event schedule. As a media and advertising firm, A. K.
When the coronavirus hit the world in 2020, the beauty industry were among those who were badly hit by the pandemic. Numerous malls had to be temporarily closed asthe country declared a self-imposed quarantine to curb the spread of the virus. The beauty giant Sephora, are among those who were severely affected. Sales dipped drastically in the second quarter of 2020, causing the company to close a number of its stores throughout the country. Majority of their sales in 2020 were supported by their online digital store. Although the beauty giant has its own digital store, customers still prefer the offline shopping experience. The ability to wander into Sephora's brightly lit stores and trying out the beauty products which were displayed throughout the store are among what influenced customers to make their purchase decision. And now that the country is recovering from the after-effects of the pandemic, Sephora has decided to host a celebration, some
Arthur tilted his head towards Victory, his pale blue eyes blinking at her obscurely. He barely registered her dizzy state, realising belatedly that he wasn't feeling too good himself. Giving Victory a small nod, heguided her out of the ballroom. His head was buzzing, as if he had too much to drink and his cheeks felt warm. His eyes were glazed, his vision felt like he was seeing two images on top of each other. And when he moved forward, he also discovered his legs to be unsteady, wobbling like a penguin. Did I drink too much champagne? He pondered. Cautiously, he steered her towards the elevators, his left hand resting gently on her lower back. Arriving in front of the elevator, he pressed the buttons on the wall next to the elevator doors. In her befuddled state, Victory could barely hold herself steady. So she closed her eyes, shifted her weight and leaned into Arthur for support. Her head rested gingerly above his shoulder, brown ha
Arthur chuckled at her words. If anyone was ravished last night, it would have been her. She doesn't realise it just yet but there were scarlet kiss marks below her jaw, along her neck, trailing from her shoulder and downwards to where her chest is covered by the duvet. He is absolutely sure that if he were to take a peek, there would be more red marks on other intimate parts of her body. "Considering the state of familiarity that we are in now, why don't you just call me Arthur instead of Mr. Knight." He insisted with a ghost of a smile to her. His pale blue eyes were twinkling with amusement. "Why did you ask that, Victory?" Arthur asked, referring to her earlier question. Victory nibbled nervously on her bottom lip, contemplating what she was about to say. What shocked her is that it took her only a week before jumping into bed with Arthur. One. Bloody. Week. She's known Aaron for eight ye
To say that everything went smoothly after the unfortunate incident of cherry popping would be an understatement. Things went from unease to extremely awkward, as both Victory and Arthur never had a smooth relationship to begin with. Victory is proverbial little Miss Sunshine while Arthur is the fire-breathing Mr. Grouch. And now the world's weirdest pairing have a salacious little secret between them and it was causing a wide rift in their professional relationship. Still, both Victory and Arthur tried their very best to pretend as if nothing happened. They only discussed the event once, and that was when Arthur told her that he had seen the video footage from the hotel which confirmed that Kate was seen to have added something in the champagne and both of them appeared tipsy when they walked from the elevator to the Executive suite. He purposely omitted the fact they were making out like hormonal teenagers in the elevator. Both agreed that i
It was a bright Tuesday morning at A. K. Media and Victory was getting ready materials that were needed for the next meeting. She was currently standing in the middle of Meeting Room 2, located on the 7th floor of Knight Towers. A. K. Media has 5 meeting rooms in all, in various sizes to suit the different number of attendees that would be joining the meeting. The largest meeting room is Meeting Room 1, which would be able to accommodate about 40 attendees while the smallest meeting room is Meeting Room 5, which is basically a discussion room as it is only able to accommodate about four to five people at one time. Meeting Room 2 is the second largest meeting room and is able to accommodate about 30 attendees. A large oval table is positioned in the middle of the room while an overhead projector hung from the ceiling. A white screen is hidden in the recesses of the ceiling and can be rolled down conveniently with a remote whenever required. De
The meeting went smoothly, Arthur thought as a satisfied smile appeared faintly on his lips. Despite the fact that he had to endure Kate barging into the office every week, the advertisements that they have designed for Mortimer Ltd. turned out extremely well. Very soon shooting will commence for both print and tv ads and it would not be long before they wrap up this job for the client. A. K. Media's next engagement for Mortimer Ltd. will be for their annual dinner event in about four and a half months' time, which Arthur isn't too worried about. Annual dinners are very simple to organise, especially those hosted by large corporations. Corporate clients are usually concerned with the selection of the emcee, type of dishes that is to be served and the entertainment schedule for the dinner. While the rest of the details will be left to A. K. Media to organise and sort through. Arthur finally retreated to his office after the last client had left the mee
Victory and Arthur left the doctor's office in a daze, both lost in their own world. The discovery of Victory pregnant was alarming, shocking them to the core. Their eyes were stricken, bodies tense and both faces wore identical grim expressions. They walked listlesslyto the dispensary and waited for a few minutes forsome tabletswhich would help Victory with her morning sickness. The doctor also prescribed iron and folic acid supplements that she should take if she plans on carrying the pregnancy to term. The tablets felt heavy in her slender hands, a grave reminder of the culmination of their actions at the Plaza Hotel. Actions which both had absolutely no control over. A tragic event that resulted in dire consequences, colluding both their worlds together. It was like God had played a cruel joke on them and now it is time to pay the price. By the time they left the hospital, it was already late in the after
